This Red Hot Chili Pepper CD is one of my favorites. It includes some of Frusciantes flashiest solos, and it really does well at returning to their funky roots. Some songs like Hump De Bump, and Shes Only 18, or Storm in a Teacup, really move me to play something funky. And all of Fleas stuff makes me want to learn more on my bass.
This album is much different from the last, much different than its following album. The CD starts out with a calm acoustic peace that all of the sudden becomes a loud and heavy 13 minute piece en espanol. Much of the albums language is spanish, and it really adds feeling to the CD. Between the loud parts, soft jazzy improvs take up some space, and make transitions from song to song.
The debut LP of The Mars Volta. Filled with ear shattering volume changes, strange, undecipherable riffs, and a story that is as weird as the music. Its seamless, making it best when you listen to it front to back, and that way, all of the calm parts come together and become meaningful.
