a fool and his money are soon parted...

ok, I will admit that owning a guitar that belonged to Eric Clapton would be cool because he is one of the greatest guitarists alive, but...

$80,000 for a guitar for a guitar that was owned by Clapton with no mention of any significant recordings or tours associated with it?

I would understand if it were his SG, ES335 or some other notable guitar from his past (besides Blackie, which I remember fetching a higher price).

Well, it is a vintage Gibson L5. I would have expected it to sell fairly high in general...but that is a ton of scratch for a guitar. I saw he was selling a lot of gear...is Eric just falling on hard times I wonder?

I think he auctions off his guitars to pay to operate his not-for-profit rehab clinic.

It was sold with profits going to the rehab clinic.  Apparently he also got a bunch of his other buddies in the guitar elite to donate instruments and stuff too.  I think Jeff Beck was one of them if I remember right.

And speaking of Mr. Beck - have you seen this slightly out of sync video as of yet?
