I will be starting a rebuild of my Fender Deluxe Reverb Silverface amplifier in the near future. At this time, as I have not taken it apart at all as of yet, I'm not sure exactly what year it is. I know it's a Silverface model, with a pull volume pot on the Vibrato channel, and my dad acquired it used in a private sale sometime back in 1982. The current original speaker just says it's a "Fender Special Design Speaker", written in blue lettering on the silver magnet cover.
I'll be retubing this amp, possibly new caps and transformers, and as I know the original speaker is blown (the paper cone is disintegrating), that will be changed as well. In regard to what speaker to use, I'll let you know that I've been considering Celestion's Gold AlNiCo, as well as Jensen's C12N. Both of these are 50 watt 8 ohm speakers. Any suggestions, either between these two, or possibly another Celestion model, let's say a ceramic magnet type? Keep in mind, I want to retain the vintage sound, and I don't plan on hitting this amp with any type of boost, so, clean tones are of utmost importance here. Thanks!!!
