I just started playing guitar a couple weeks ago, I have lessons, a strap, picks, an acoustic guitar, a wall mount, a chord reference book, and a tuner. What should I buy with $50? I got a $50 gift card to my local guitar store, and am wondering what to buy. The store has just about everything, but I am not sure what I need to get! If something that you recommend is more than 50, its fine - just no more than 100, I definitely can not spend more than that unless I really need it. Thanks! P.S.: I need to use it fairly soon, so saving up for another guitar will be hard. Thanks again!

Save it. Eventually, (sooner than you think) you'll be wanting to upgrade to an electric, and you'll be making another post on G.com to the tune of "What's a good electric for a beginner?". When that time comes, I'll recommend a Strat and that 50$ will come in handy :)

OK, ok...maybe a scale book would come in handy. Then you'll have 45$ or so left...still enough for a small down payment on a Strat.

If you don't have one, I would recommend getting a capo. Depending on what kind you get, it could cost anywhere from $5 to $20 (the $20 ones are easier to move around and don't wear out, but the nylon strap ones are cheap and work well too). You can use the capo to change the key you are in and a few other things to make songs easier to sing and to change around the notes while still only knowing the basic chords.

Other then that, and maybe a few song books or something of the like, there isn't much to recommend. You could save it for another guitar sometime, but I wouldn't recommend it simply because if your happy with the guitar you have now, you should be fine.

Good luck.

Signed on the capo. The mediocre acoustic guitarist's best friend.

You could always use it to buy visual accessories. Awesome sunglasses, a hat...anything that will further your rock 'n' roll appearance.

I'm just kidding. Save it and scrounge up another 100 or so. You can get a beginner strat for about 150 in some of the music stores.

A lot of great ideas. I have about 200-300 saved up in the bank, I'll keep that for a guitar sometime in the future. I can add to it as well, but I think that that plus whatever else I can find will definitely keep me occupied for a long time haha. Yeah, I did just recently get my guitar and I am happy with it. I'm going to look around the store for whatever I like, check out the different things there that you have mentioned, and just basically throw the money into anything that I think will be helpful. Saving it up does sound good though... lol thanks for the help everyone! Still, keep on adding if you want, I will keep looking around.
Thanks again!

Acoustic guitar needs two things : a brass slide and a blues harp 8D. Maybe a thumb pick too. All of which together shouldn'd exceed $50. Of course, none of it is of any use to you if you're not into the blues roots.

Capo, definitely.

Loads of strings. If you're playing alot then they'll wear out quickly. Get a few different types to see which ones you like.

A metronome.

Other than that, check out DVD reviews on other websites eg Amazon for different styles that you like then buy an instructional DVD...

Oh, and get a harmonica to carry with you. That way you'll be a musician wherever you go, even if you don't have your guitar with you.

Strings and more strings. Try them all, but if you want some nice ones, the DR Elixirs are phenomenal. You will probably break about 3-4 strings learning over the next 6 months, and you should change them out , to learn how to, any way. The new DVD from Andy Alendort / Acoustic guitar wouldn't hurt either. It is put out by Guitar World. GO to the magazine rack and check it out. I have been learning a lot from it. There is always a nice hard shell case, which I am also looking for my acoustic.

The thing I've found that no one ever thinks of, (since you're playing acoustic,) is a stool. Nice to have a place to set your butt. Better than sitting on the edge of your bed, couch, chair, etc. Will help with your posture while you're learning. Whenever I play anywhere, (outside of a gig, where I make sure to bring my stool,) the first thing I look for is a stool.

if i were you.......
-i'd get a load of great picks, ones that last much longer (if u use picks that is...)
-i'd (as GB said) get a scale book, they are great for learning.
-IF they have them in the store, i'd get a load of stickers to put on my guitar :P
-Maybe some extra strings, incase you go strumming crazy ;-D
-or putting towards a new guitar is also a good idea.

there just a few suggestions :D
