Learn "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. It is a simple song that everyone loves to sing along to.

Buy a chords book with your guitar!
Then learn the chords, and after that go learn some simple songs.
Suggestion: Coldplay - Don't Panic
The chords are: F (no barre), Am, C, F
And then: Dm, G and Am.
(but learn them first..)

chords are the way to go. A chord on acoustic guitar can't be matched by any electric the sound is unrivaled.

by the way the i'm stupid is simple but funny.

Well, you could utilize an acoustic in three ways:

1) Play folk songs on it, strum songs, and/or play on it exactly what you would play on an electric. This is what most folks do.

2) You could view the acoustic as an instrument with a separate repertoire, now you're talking about bluegrass, ragime, and solo chord melody stuff like Davy Graham and Eric Roche.

3) Play songs that are part of the rock and roll acoustic repertoire.

The first time I bought an acoustic, I basically did #1. The second time, I tried #2, trying to play ragtime stuff like Scott Joplin, and it is quite demoralizing. Achieveing right hand finger independence in time is a b**** when you've been primarily playing with a pick.

Anyway, I think you're asking about songs from #3, so some I've worked on are: More Than Words, Blackbird, Dust in the Wind, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel. Also, an alblum I highly recommend is Big Star Live. Alex Chilton does an acoustic solo set, more than just strumming, but still pick-style. Nice to add to your repertoire to sing for the chicks...

Well start with the basics I would say.

Play some easy songs to get used to how the guitar feels in your hands.

Older songs are pretty easy to play, House of the Rising Sun, You Are My Sunshine, Walk Don't Run, This Land Is Your Land, Ghost Riders in the Sky, Louie Louie, ect.

Of course if your into more "current" music then I;m sure your favorite artist has a few easy acoustic songs you could cop.

Steve Vai's "Burnin' Down the Mountain" on Flex-Able is a good example of acoustic fun - which is easy to play along with - even though Vai could blow our pants off.

Play whatever you want to play, an acoustic is a great instrument, You can finger pick, Strum, play leads basically do anything you want. It's not an electric, its better no cords, no amps, no pedals just you and 6 strings how perfect is that.
