Personally I have played the shell coated Alchemy's in lights and med. and I love them, I've heard that Elixers are similar but have yet to play on em. Any other recommendations?

it's definitely going to depend guitar to guitar...but on my martin j15 (mahogany, jumbo..very dark) i have martin marquis mediums. they bring out the top end, and obviously the mediums bring out a great bass tone that's very clear. i have a cordoba classical that i use rectified saverez's with normal tension. very even sound, and the treble strings feel so smooth to the touch. i used to use d'addarrio on both...but i don't think i can go back now.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks! I actually play a very old fender dg-5. It doesnt have a gloss finish like most acoustics, its actually pretty strange how i got it. It was given to me by some guy waking into guitar center. I saw him carrying all this stuff in so i held the door for him and he stopped and asked if i played guitar. Bam free acoustic, with a case, only thing wrong with it was a cracked saddle, 5 bucks for a new one and its good as new. Lucky or what?

I personally like Elixir mediums. I use them on my yamaha. I'm pretty new to acoustics but I definitely like these better than any others I've tried. Definitely a very thick and full sound.

I have currently put DR Rare 10s on my 6string (jumbo, maple top and body, bright with bite) but I have to play it a while more before making a judgment on them...

I've always used Martin Silk and Steel's on my 12 strings. Have tried Elixers but they're just not worth the cost. I use Elixers on my 6 strings, but for the 12 it's the Martins all the way. On electric 12's I use D'Addarios because they have a wound octave A string as the Martins have a plain steel octave A. It will make a difference on acoustics that aren't using a bridge pickup. The unwound A string rings out loudly, overpowering everything around it. If using a Dean Markley Pro Mag pickup on a 12 string acoustic, I'll replace the octave A with a G string, (wound,) to eliminate the boominess of the unwound string. (I consistantly tune my 12 strings down a full step anyway.) With an electric pickup the problem is the same so the D'Addarios address this issue. Electric is a different animal anyway.

i use these martins on my yamaha, medium gauge, they sound real twangy, but aren't very easy on the fingers, but you get used to them

i like dean markley med lites. i tried martin and ernie ball both of which were decent, but i think i like the markleys better. i tried a couple sets of elixr to see what all the hype was about, and personally i didnt care for them at all. but everybody is different.
