Not always in octaves.

The low strings (E, A, D, and G) are tuned in octaves. The B and E strings are tuned in unison to the same pitches.

Or you can be creative and tune the extra strings to various intervals. You can get some cool sounds like that, but you sacrifice certain chord fingerings that won't sound right.

ALWAYS tuned a full step down.

DdGgCcFfAADD

or

CcGgCcFfGGCC

I rarely do any drop D type tunings and just deal with playing along with another guitar who has dropped the D or double dropped it. Pretty much all I play are 12 strings.

Straight tuning. Used to be E (eE aA dD gG bb ee), now it's C# ... I haven't decided where I'll keep it.

Really, any tuning that works on a 6 string works on 12 string too. There is no reason to ask for 12string tunings in particular...

Forget I mentioned you can tune the strings of a pair to different notes. It's not a popular thing to do. I dont' even do it.

Do you even have a 12string? If not, why do you care so much?
