I've heard some great things about mid priced (300-500) Alvarez acoustics. I've never gotten a chance to play one but I've read that they play much better than what they are priced at. Is this true? How are their current acoustics, I'm a little concerened because they are made in China and I've heard early Chinese guitars weren't really up to par.

Alvarez is a pretty reputable company and they make some fine guitars in my opinion. Here's a review of an Alvarez that retails for $549.00. You should be able to find the same model cheaper elsewhere. It doesn't mention where it's made though.

I think Alvarez is a nice guitar,All guitars have a different sound. But it is what sound do you want. And what feels good to you.A guitar I have may sound good to me may not be the sound you want. The same thing goes for playability.I like the action on all my guitar as low as possible, without buzzing the frets. It maybe fine for me and not you.So try out different models, and the one that sound good to you and playability.Buy it.

The Alvarez Koa and its A/E cutaway equivalent are both solid instruments. Nice action, nice tone, nice sustain, and the koa wood is beautiful to look at. Last I checked, prices for those were about $350 and $450 respectively.

I have a Alverez 12 string that I think highly of and my brother has a low end Alverez that he likes. Alverez is a good company that seems to bring out the best in what ever price point they go after. Mostly they make a fairly good guitar that a lot of players are satisfied with, but as with all guitars they are best played before paid. But if your concern is guitars made in Asia, you may have to put that aside or use that education to get a good paycheck because American guitars can be pricey.
