Everyone knows Slash uses a wah!! Everyone knows he uses it well....

Having seen Slash live with Velvet Revolver I really enjoyed hearing the wah at a live gig.

Another dude (and I was very, very, very surprised at this) who used it pretty well was Steve Craddock of Ocean Colour Scene (got left over ticket from my brother for the gig).

Now I am not the best with a wah but really fancy listening to some other guitarists who use it well.

Any thoughts................

Steve Vai uses it a lot

John Petrucci makes a good use of it as a rhythm tool in "Home"

Of course, Voodoo Child is a great example of how to use one, whether it's Jimi or Stevie's version.

Ah forgot about Jimi...consider my wrist slapped.

My gf is big Vai fan (seen him twice in Glasgow).....to be honest, while I have never, ever been in doubt of his amazing ability I have just never gotten round to listening to his stuff (down to my insecurity gf's ex could play all Vai's stuff). Next port of call.

The idea of using it for rhythm is clever.....mere mortals like me struggle with thinking outside the box hehe.

John Fru' and Tom Morello both have good use of wah - Both very different uses mind.

I'm partial to a bit of Weezer as well - Rivers Cuomo was always good with wah.

Please give us some credit. Most of friends in college (university to you Euros) were big Anglophiles. So yes, I know all about Britpop.

I love WAH! I think it tends to lend a lot of emotion. John Petrucci makes good use of it like Shane stated. He also uses it on his Suspended Animation solo album.

My favorite wah abuser is Mick Ronson. He did not do the typical, funk/porno music fast wahs. It was more like a slow tone sweep. Check out his insane guitar work on disc two of Bowie at the Beeb.

Wow no one said Kirk Hammett he said himself youd have to chop off his leg to make him stop using one too bad, I think all of his wah are custom wahs though, so I can never nail his wah.

I don`t find using Wah something special, all you have to do is step on it...Many guitarists use Wah,but I say Satriani and Vai make it sound best.Although as I said,it`s nothing special.
Many people forget Hendrix and Voodoo Chile.I think it was the first Wah song, ruffly saying.

I tend to lean toward Hendrix and Vai as my favorite wah users, its not the most common tool although its very fun =).

My personal opinion of the pedal is that only that you dont use unless you know what youre doing, it can be cool but VERY annoying when not used correctly.

It would be interesting to see a slide and a wah used together.....

Just a thought...

@Steve: I find the Crybaby Classic with the Fasel gets pretty close to Kirk's result and I have nowhere near his EMG's and big Mesa or Marshall. I think he endoreses/ed this model too.

I love wah, with Voodoo Chile being very high on my list.
Also, Blackmore using wah: "Emmaretta" - DP Not very creative use of wah but I like it.

Half of my pedals are wahs (3/6). Still working out how to use them...
