i recorded a motley crue concert on my dvr yesterday. it was from the red, white, and crue tour. it was first aired on tv in jan 2006. i dont know exactly when this tour was, but it looked to be somewhat recent.

i love to watch concerts so i was looking forward to watching it when i went home from work yesterday. the trouble started during the very first song which was " shout at the devil ". something just didnt sound right, and as i watched more and more, i became convinced that vince neil was lip sync-ing (did i spell that right?) the whole damn thing. what a sham!! the music was live (and didnt sound bad) but there were several times i thought the vocal sounded like it was recorded, a couple times it was very obvious. if i had bought tickets to that show i would have been pissed. i think thats really a rip-off. i want to hear and see a live performance. hell, i can fake it at home.

im always noticing all this pop bullshit on tv that seems mostly fake. it has become so popular to lip sync that stuff that i think it must be accepted now, but im so disappointed to see a band like the crue stoop to this level. they have never really been one of my favorites, however i do like them fairly good, or at least i did anyway.

how do you guys feel about this kind of thing?

have any of you seen this show, and did you notice it too?

Vince is getting old. He can't keep partying and continue to deliver good vocals. As pro singers advance in age, they go to bed early, watch what they eat, lay off the cigarettes, etc. Otherwise, they can lip sync at their shows.

Not opera singers! They eat whatever they want and smoke like chimneys! It's always amazed me how they seem to abuse their gifts, but it seems it's always been that way.

I didn't see the show, but the nature of DVR's could be the problem. It's possible it wasn't sync'd correctly or that there was some "slip" in the data feed.

If you're going to put on a show, don't fake it. In fact, if someone uses an Antares, I'm done with them. (We don't use one in the studio either.) If you can't do it, then you shouldn't be up there. It's a complete ripoff to pretend ANYTHING at a show where people are paying to see you. I understand that they might have actually recorded this stuff in a studio but, knowing what can be done in a studio, if you can't do it live, then you shouldn't be touring.

Reminds me of Dragonforce. They're studio recordings are pretty slick. But when you see youtube videos of them playing live, they're as sloppy as all getup. Personally, I just think they are drunk.

i thought of the possibility that the dvr could have made it look like the timing was off, so there is no way to be absolutely sure, but i still suspect a little trickery. it didnt seem to happen when it was showing a close up of mick mars doing a solo. it seemed to be perfectly timed then.

yeah they are gettin a little old, but there are lots of the good ones suffering the same fate and this is the first i have noticed faking it.

i have been watching " zz top live from texas " and billy gibbons is still doing the real thing. he must be 60 years old, (and still sounds good) so i cant blame it on age.

Why would he NEED to lip-synch? Dr. Feelgood and Girls, Girls, Girls isn't exactly operatic aria material...

It bothers me when people lip-synch for their concerts. Recording/mixing can make anyone sound good.
There are those (like me) who enjoy the raw live performances. It's a rip off if the concert it lip-synched.
