I dont know how many of you out thier live in Canada, but we get screwed when it comes to concerts. All american bands say thier going on a north american tour and all they go to is Montreal, Edmonton and Vancouver.... and living ina small town its a long trip to any of them. Is any on else effected by this ?

You think you get screwed out of concerts? I live in Nova Scotia (Halifax even!). Most of the time they only go as far as NB and don't even bother with us. A lot will only go to the big money cities (TORONTO), but the crappy thing with NS is that we're kind of a dead end (unless you are heading overseas from there) and we're not cost effective when tours have to go in and turn around to leave, instead of keep going straight. We also got crappy venues too. Only 15,000 in the Metro Centre? No wonder no one wants to play!! We do get the occasional good show, but you'd think a city of our size would be able to do better. Oh well. :(

It's not just Canada. That happens in the US too. The big acts just don't go to smaller locations, it's boils down to plain ol' economics. Now that the artists are making less from record sales because of all the internet filesharing going on, they derive more and more of their revenue from concerts, so they're going to maximize their economic benefits from concerts as much as possible.

....unintended concequences from all the illegal downloading, IMHO.

I have lived in places like this in the US where you can't find a good venue within a 400 mile radius.

But, now I live in Texas. Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Texarkana....they all have at least decent venues. Of course, it *is* Texas, so you'd better be prepared to drive at least 3 hours for anywhere you want to go.

I just moved away from Vancouver. However... I'm only 2 hours away, and have front row seats to ALICE COOPER! in september. And I hear Pat Benatar is coming. And I saw billy idol, korn, deftones, bill cosby, gov't mule, and many more in the last few years. You gotta go where the action is. I have gone far into the US for a concert - then it becomes more than seeing a concert... it becomes an experience.

Yeah, I really shouldn't complain a lot, we just had TWO Ozzy concerts and Queens of the Stoneage are coming soon. And others too, but I can't be bothered to think too hard this late in the day (i can think of two more, but I am embarrased to say lol). I just wish we had more and better, cause we have the potential, but the people in charge of these things just do not seem very smart.

angyfirebomb, I agree...Metro Center has more seating than the Moncton Coliseum, yet bands will go there and not Halifax...I think some cases it's that the people in charge over there are either not trying hard enough or just screw it up.

When it came down to a bidding war for the Eagles, Halifax came up short...and not that I'm into her music anyway, but what happened with Celine Dion?

I heard they tried to get a second Ozzy show for Moncton also, but there wasn't room in his schedule (shame considering the concert sold out here in less than 2 hours and thousands of people were still looking for tickets)

A few people (media types mostly) were very vocal about their displeasure of having Celine Dion, instead of someone better, play on the Commons and some people were making jokes about it, and they cancelled the concert cause their (Celine Bitchface and husband) pride got hurt (they SAY it was because her stage show wouldn't go well in an outdoor environment. Bullcrap.), even tho she has been here before numerous times. So we get Keith Urban instead. Oh yeah, much better. *barf*

The money part of it is just a sad fact of life. If the bigger acts tried to bring their shows to Bugtussel USA, or Eastern Slombinia they would be losing a lot of money. I always hated growing up in the Baltimore-Washington area, but I gotta' say we always had a steady stream of the most popular acts around. 76' was a great year for me, I saw..

Late May, RFK Staduim - Ted Nugent, Nazerth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Aerosmith. A week later at RFK, Gary Wright, Peter Frampton, and Yes. I think both events were promoted by the same people. Later that Summer I saw Little Feat, (Lowell George was still alive then), at the Warner Theater. Near the end of that Summer I saw Larry Coryell open for James Taylor at Merryweather Post. That fall there wasn't much happening, but in Feb of 77' I saw Kiss. I still remember that ticket costing $20. I had it good, and I know it. But living in any major city has it's drawbacks. There were countless times I wished I could have lived in a small rural town away from traffic jams, and crime. Everytime you go to cut your postage stamp lawn at least 30 people know it. But hey, life's a trade off.

I live in Moncton NB, and lately I find it's getting better....but if you're into metal and hard rock, it seems most of these acts avoid the region like the plague...as if they're afraid they'll leave with a fiddle player added to the lineup.

Moncton for the past 15 years has seen an endless stream of country concerts....Ozzy was a treat and I'm excited for Alice Cooper coming this fall, but these are the first concerts to come to Moncton in 10 years that I was interested in (oh, except for BB King in '04)

The situation here is almost as bad as Halifax (but not as bad).

I find alot of the groups do the usual Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver thing with a couple of other cities in between and say "fuck the east"...what they don't realize is we're starved for good music and the energy of the crowds here is very high.

I remember seeing an interview with Metallica during their Justice (around 88 or 89) tour where they were asked about their favourite city in the whole tour...they said Moncton, because we were so crazy.
