I don't want to seem like a jerk but, you're the only one here that has ANY clue as to what they sound like,Skill levels, Format of the band (guitars, violin? etc) and you signed them. Seems like a silly question for a forum like this to me.
I would guess that what you're going to get (if anything) is a listing of peoples favorite songs.

Actually Ryan this is the kind of thing that does interest me but like earlier comments more info is needed. A good cover can make a big difference, if they are able to make it their own and offer a new perspective on something everybody thinks they know all about. I've heard takes on Smoke on the Water that swing so far away from what DP did it just amazes. What is your vision and just what is the band about. More info Buddy

They are playing at there school for a little talent show, but can give them some Well deserved Exposure(hopefully) I really want to expose the students that will attend to Real music, with of course that unique twist, And impress everyone.

They have a strong Female vocalist(like Evanescence type voice)

A Decent Guitarist/who has decent vocals(guy(He can play anything really, just takes some practice)

The Drummer is the best at what he does, there will be no problem with him

And a guitarist/bassist who's a girl and sings backup vocals for the harder songs.

I am really looking for a song, they can enjoy playing, And Every one can enjoy listening to. But still have/or make have that hard feel to it.

Let me get this straight... You "signed" a group that has no focus??? Well, there's a trip straight to the toilet! (Unless, of course, you're willing to work with them night and day to set them on a productive path.)

We have many, MANY, groups who come to the studio in that condition. Groups that are doing their own original work. I wouldn't consider signing a single one of them. Sure, it can make you look better to say you have "x" number of groups in your stable, but if there's no direction... Besides, signing a group means spending money to make more money. I have a small time label that works with the studio. Any group he signs costs him anywhere from $3000 to $5000 before he even sees a penny from their work.

Add to that you come here to ask what they should play? As was stated earlier, you know your group better than anyone here, and even with descriptions of their "abilities" how would anyone here know, better than you, what they should play? Shame on you! If I were in that group, and found out that you didn't have a clue about what we should be doing, how we should be doing it, or even the most simple part, what we should play, I'd be seriously reconsidering this "signing."

Not meaning to diss you here, but if you have a label, (meeting the requirements of actually being a label, not just creating a name and calling it a label,) and you're signing groups, you're not doing them any service by not knowing your business inside and out. You should be aware of current trends. You should know damned near EVERYTHING that's being played, who's playing it, how difficult it is to cover, etc. I know this sounds like a lot, but even in the studio we take the time to listen to everything we can. We pay attention to drum sounds, guitar sounds, vocal tracks, etc. We break everything down so when someone walks in the door and says, "I want to sound like, so and so," we know exactly what they're talking about.

Business is more than opening a door and putting up a sign and calling it good. If you intend to succeed and you intend for your groups to succeed, then you need to have the knowledge to give them an answer NOW, and not have to resort to asking strangers on the internet.

That being said...

Find out what your group members listen to. Spend some time with them and listen to what they say. Don't just hit them with a song idea and tell them this is what they're going to do.

I guess what I really don't understand here is that if you "signed" them, and they are a band, then they must already have a set list. (If they don't, then "signing" them was a bad move. Then again I expect "signing them doesn't mean they have a contract guaranteeing them any money, so it's no skin off your nose, and no advantage to the band being "signed.")

I just don't understand why are you needing to find something for them to play? Have them work on, and play, something they already know! You're the one they're looking to for direction. It should be coming from you, not from us.

"It should be coming from you, not from us."

Actually, it probably should be coming from THEM assuming, they are not just messing about and have no ideas or influences, or thought.

The instant I have a label guy telling me I HAVE to play this song I'm outta there. Unless, of course, money talks.

Just my opinion. Take it for what it is worth.

"This One goes Out to the One I love" by REM. Get some nice blending with the lead and back-up vocals, some interesting drums, and you got a rock song!

I would suggest finding out the influences of these musicians and pick the best song from those artists...if they dont have any influences that are good for a cover I would suggest doing a cover of a ballad and having an upbeat change to it...there are millions of things that could be done...it all depends on the styles of the band...but even then, any style can be shaped to do a cover.

Good Luck!
