1. Let the song be a self comp
2. Dont practice it.
3. MAke the vocalist scream for hours before the concert, so that he loses his voice
4. Forget to have a soundcheck when you start
5. Accidentally forget to tune one of the guitars, and figure out that its out of tune as the song starts. So, get the guitarist playing it to stop playing.
6. Have the bassist suddenly change key
7. Take revenge by forcing him to play a solo, which will hopefully sound like crap.
8.Then start guitar wanking for so long that the people who are filming the video get bored and turn off the camera

9. Announce that it was all intentional

OMG haha man! That made my morning! I mean the part where you forced the bassist to solo.

I'm sorry your gig went so bad. Hopefully you learned something from your mistakes.

haha. Lets hope I did. This was the prelims for a competition. I guess its too much to hope we got through to the next round. Still. It was fun.

And wasnt the solo just hilarious?

:D

And, from now on, my gigs will, hopefully be better.

Loved it.

Yeah sure it was a tale of woe and a lot of mistakes were made both before and during. But wasn't it fun??? Live music is NEVER without complications, its part of the whole experience, and hell it seems like you obviously learned a lot from doing it, so ultimately it was worth it!!

Keep working at it, and keep on rocking.. :-)

Haha. We were the only band playing something bluesy there. Pity it turned into a train wreck

haven't had a chance to check the link yet (facebook on the office computers is grounds for firing) but it sounds interesting.

actually, kinda sounds like a battle of the bands I'd been in once... first, my amp crapped out... then my 7 string guitar got an intermittant jack so I had to switch guitars mid song and play the song without the low B string (this totally changed the feel of the low B parts).

The singer had a cold and started to lose his voice, the drummer kept breaking sticks on the cymbals and the bassist some how broke a string.

oh...and the singer and I also got quite sloshed because we were pushed back a few hours from the point we were scheduled to play because they decided to add some last minute acoustic acts and didn't think they'd fair well wedged between an 2 electic bands (us playing hard rock/metal and the other being classic rock).

BUMP!

Just brought this one back to say.

We got into the finals of the competition. Its on Saturday. (yep, the judges are crazy)

Its in a big auditorium and all :)

You see, I said the song was completely impromptu before we started, and I guess ours was better than some crap Dream Theatre covers and cover of a song by some band called Skillet (never heard of them)...

If I do get someone to take I vid, I'll post it here...

I'm pretty sure its gonna be as bad though...we wont get to practice :\

congrats

here's the thing, if the judges are people who either like to improvise or write their own music the points you scored for originallity with an improvised tune or original composition would blow away someone miming another group.

Whenever I've been part of a talent contest, we either placed in the top 3 or at least got the honourable mention for being the most original group because we didn't just play covers but wrote something (or improvised something in some cases).

And here's how it all turned out.

This time, we played in an amphitheater. So, the distortion didnt sound good. I only realized that towards the end, so I turned it down.

haha. you could understand what I was saying? :)

hmm. Its actually very complicated in India. They're about 720 major languages in the country, so the only languages that are commonly shared (and that too only by some) are English and Hindi.

The competition was, funnily, organized by some scandinavian organization-- Hence, english.

And yes. The call and response is improvised. Actually, in my *speech* I say that the whole thing is improvised

thanks :)

Is this not in your home country? Why are you speaking english?

The tune has some cool nods to the doors in terms of vibe, combined with more rocknroll stuff. I don't how it sounded to people there. Camera's are notorious for sucking at recording music.

So are the little call-and-response things there improvised?

Damn that was good man, dont care what anyone says!

love the improvisation or if it was on purpose liked it either way too bad the recording wasn't better thats the only bad thing

are you guys a real band or was it for the talent show?

Id also like to throw in liked how y'all interacted with each AND the audience and showed yall were into it, alot of bands forget about that in my opinion

Thanks :D

This is what's probably going to be our school's band next year. The bassist, drummer and pianist are actually all in it right now (I'll be the new addition. They have a kickass guitarist right now- too bad he's in the 12th grade. Well. too bad for everyone except me ;) )
