I really don't know anything about the Jonas Brothers so I am wondering HOW they got so big and WHY? Are they good musicians? Are their songs really that good?

Becuase they're Disney. And kids love everything Disney... Just like Hanna Montana, and Lizzy McGuire before that...

yep - disney = kids = money

as far as their music goes, last time i checked - they don't really know how to play their instruments......and the rolling stone cover says all they want is people to look at them as a real band...i mean, really?

OK this as good a place as any and the timing is perfect. I'm 59 and took my 13 year old daughter to a Jonus Brothers show last night. The first concert I ever went to was back in the sixties it was the McCoys (Rick Derringer's first band), so let it be known that I have 45 years of shows behind me and this was as good as any of them and better than some.
While Disney, no doubt, had a great deal to do with raising this band to the level they are currently at, I don't believe this band is a Disney creation. A Disney creation opened the show and the difference was huge. As you may or not know the Jonus brothers are just that three brothers with the last name of Jonus. Yes they play their own instruments and no they don't lip sync. I saw a serious band with a totally professional show. But most outstanding was the leader of the band, the youngest member Nick Jonus, a 15 year who sang, played guitar, piano, drums and is the main songwriter for the band. What I saw last night was a professional band with a great stage production, and a very focused group of brothers up front. They were augmented on stage by a Drummer, Bass player, Keyboards, Guitar and eight piece string section. What I saw around me was 20,000 Kids and parents who were given a first rate show.

My memories from being a kid at 13 were fist fights in the hallways, girls wearing Bon Jovi jean jackets and smoking cigarettes outside school and fearing testosterone freaks of nature that were already over 6 feet tall in the 7th grade. I don't remember any Disney. Then again, I went to a pretty scummy public school, it was a long time ago and those are probably just the memories that stayed with me.

I dont doubt that they know what they are doing. They probably have had tremendous amount of guidance from professionals, who probably taught them theory, how to play instruments, etc. I mean sure, these guys are just not the genre that most of us listen to. They are pop, and play pop music. A good portion of us play rock, and listen to rock music. There always seems to be a rift between rock and the music industry, and since pop is a product of the music industry, I dont think rock musicians or fans like it. Pop is watered down, and Rock is (usually) somewhat rawer. Meh, Im tired now, and I am rambling on.

They are pretty boys and some executives that are in charge of something at Disney decided that they would be their most recent money makers. That is why...now for the how...I'm not really sure. I guess it would be the same as if you were trying to get a modelling job or a TV show or movie role. You're parents pay for lots of cosmetic surgeries, you audition, and you get picked. Then Disney floods the air waves with your image with kids worshipping you as you lipsynch to your Disney songs, they start believing that everyone else loves you so maybe they should too, and before you know it, your image is tacked to the wall of every pre-pubescent little girl in America (maybe even the world).
You know...I bet the Naked Brothers Band is pissed. The Jonas Brothers and the Naked Brothers should go on tour, trade groupies, catch lots of STDs, hooked on heroine, and eventually they reach the rock stardom that all rock stars dream of...choking on your own vomit which consists of 50% alcohol. That would be a hoot, wouldn't it?
I think I just had diarreah of the brain...

I've heard of them before, but I didn't really know who they were until today. Wikipedia knows all. They seem to be well-trained, including having done stuff on Broadway and having been doing this a long time. And I would not be surprised if they were better musicians than most amateurs, myself included. Then again, I haven't listened to any of it.

They'll all be in a Hollywood psych ward with Brittany in two years. VH-1's Behind the Clearasil featuring the Jonas Brothers.

correct me if im wrong - but they came to my town about a month ago in this local venue where my band's guitar player works, and he had a chance to talk to band's sound crew, and they told him that they don't really know how to play instruments.

i mean, maybe they do know how to play, but not as much as their fame and popularity they deserve. that's possibly what they meant? ;p

I bet they play well enough to at least get the chords down. They seem to know the finger positions and such if nothing else.

That, and most pro singers I know have spent *some* time in front of a piano. It's almost a must to be a pro, to have something to reference your sense of pitch against as you practice things like lip drills and vocal frys.
