what does everybody think of Michael Angelo Batio? I don't really know much about him, but i've seen a couple of videos, and i think he's amazing. anybody who can play a doubleneck guitar like his deserves mad props. he is amazingly talented, i mean his name is MICHAEL ANGELO Batio, he has to be good in order to live up to his name.

I'm not a big fan of his sound, (Sounds like a Boss GT8 or something...) but MASSIVE respect goes to his chops and playing skills. He's a wizard to say the least. I have 2 of his CD's, and I like him better than Buckethead...

His picking technique has to be better than anyone's, and his 2 hand thing is just gross... I've read that he's a really good sightreader, too...

I think Gilbert, Cooley, and Lane have a much better picking technique in my opinion.

Actually, I like that clip (in the video)... I've heard he's a really nice guy too, despite being the brunt of every Nitro-based joke ever...

I think, aside from Yngwie, Michael Angelo Batio was the first shredder I ever heard. I honestly just...didn't know what was happening when I heard him play, I seriously didn't understand.
And his double neck thing, although it seems a little bit cheesy at times, is just so ridiculous. Although sometimes his sound is a bit weak, I still think he's on of the greatest guitar players ever, man.

He is not an artist I would ever listen to on a daily basis but as zombre said.... massive respect for his chops. I also agree that he is a really nice guy. I've seen some guitar workshop vids of his where he took questions from the audience and he came off sounding like a genuinly nice guy.

His chop are gross, and I actually bought Lucid Intervals, and thought the CD was very good as far as a shredchops sort of thing. I'd like to hear him in a band situation playing with a less processed sound, all of his stuff sounds recorded direct to me...

His technique is mindblowing.

Instrumental shredding stuff isn't exactly what I like to listen to. (I bought Surfing With The Alien and haven't listened to it much) I personally think that this guy is one of the most talented shredders out there, especially since he taught himself how to play left handed and right at the same time. I most certainly wouldn't give any other stuff by him a listen to though. I don't have the attention span to.

The first time I saw Speed Kills, I just stared at the tv with my jaw to the floor. And then I noticed his guitar had like 30 frets... I use 24 frets and barely go passed 20. I wouldn't know what to do with that axe, lol.

I was never a big fan of his, but I certainly respect him as a player. The guy is amazingly fast and with both hands to boot! The guy is definitely from another world and I mean that in a good way.

To me, that particular style of music gets a bit tiring. However, I do listen to it on and off. I have seen him play a workshop in very close settings and he blew my mind. And yes, he was extremely friendly and helpful as well.

Dude is ungodly talented and undeniably the fastest player on the planet.

He actually lives very close to me and a few of my friends have met him and jammed with him. From what I hear he's a very weird guy and extremely conceded. He takes offense to things he shouldn't, and regularly kicks people out of his studio for stupid things.

That said, his playing is on a totally different level then most would even think about achieving.

Did you guys know that Battio has trademarked the dual neck guitar? He once filed a legal complaint (not sure exactly how far it went) against Steve Vai for using the dual neck, which forced Vai to use his 3 and 4 neck guitars!

Sounds like hog wash, because there are lots of musicians who have used them over the years.

I have to say he is probably one of the cheesiest looking dudes on the planet, but I am sure he is an awesome player. He probably can't get too many chicks to hang out with him do to the fro-mullett thing going on there. He's so cheesy he makes a grill cheese look like a ham sandwich. Sorry, had to throw that one out there. My Humble Opinion.

Look here for reference to his patent(s):

http://top40-charts.com/news.php?nid=45770

He invented it and was the world's first dual neck guitar player.

mind boggling technique, but I've never really gotten into him.

does he still have the hair that makes him look like Nigel Tufnel?

Nick Kcin:

The link states that he invented and was the world's first dual neck guitar player, and has it listed as one of his patents. The fact that it is patented means that only he can use it.

Your reference to Jimmy Page is a different kind of dual neck. It's not a right and left handed dual neck guitar, which is what MAB invented and patented.

I'll have to search a little further on what exactly happened with him and Vai, but I know for a fact that there was at least a threat of legal action if Vai continued to use MAB's invention/patent. Why would I make this up?
