Anyone here heard Sonic Boom yet?

What do you think?

I picked it up at Walmart on Sunday and have to admit I was quite impressed with it. Definately sounds like a classic Kiss album. The boys delivered. I think a lot of this is due to Tommy Thayer's blatant similarities to Ace Frehley...the only way it could be closer is if Ace himself was involved.

Normally I'd have an issue with a guy sounding too much like his predecessor in a band. I like to hear a band's sound evolve with the lineup changes...but in this case, I guess I can accept it. Gene and Paul never intended to record another album when Tommy joined and they looked for a guy that sounded (and looked) as close to Ace as they could find to keep the concerts looking and sounding as authentic to the band's classic 70's era as possible.

If you get it at Wally-world you also get a second cd of classic Kiss recorded by the current lineup and a 6 song dvd with clips from one of their recent concerts.

I've got the album but I've only skimmed the tracks, I haven't given it an indepth listen yet. What I've heard so far wasn't to mind-blowing. It sounds good but basic Kiss. Which is cool, I've always liked Kiss but a couple things kind of put me off. Number one, there's no picture of Eric Singer on the cover. ??? What the hell, they put Thayer on there but not Singer.

Also, I disagree with putting other players in Ace and Peters makeup. When Eric Carr joined it wasn't as big a deal because he had his own makeup design. To use the same face with different players just kind of feels wrong to me. Either let them have their own design or just wash the crap off. It was cool in the 70's but gets kind of goofy as you close in on 60 years old.

I'll give the music a proper listen as soon as I fix the CD player in my car, which is the only place I can listen to new music in peace.

I hope it's good, like I said I've always liked Kiss, but it's getting hard to get past the pretentiousness.

Eric Singer's picture is there...hidden behind the cd with the new material.

I know how you feel about the whole dressing the new members up like ACE and PETER thing. I wish they'd give them their own identity too; but apparently what they are trying to do is preserve the image of the classic 70's Kiss show more than the integrity of the band. That is, if there's any integrity left after Gene marketed the living daylights out of the bands image by plastering their faces and the KISS name on anything he could think of.

Supposedly they originally had no plans of telling anyone that Ace had left and keep Tommy's presence as a dirty little secret but then thought better of it. Probably occurred to them that A) their fans wouldn't stand for it if the secret ever got out and B) by hiding the fact that Tommy was impersonating ACE they might get sued for false advertising when people realized they weren't seeing the original KISS as they were led to believe.

I can also say I'd be fine if they decided to remove the makeup again; but I think they discovered that the make-era style show is what majority of their fans seem to want.

KISS is okay, I've always liked them. They seem to have a good time doing what they do and don't take themselves too seriously.

They've never pretended to be anything other than a money making entity though. At least they are up front about it. LOL

Maybe I'll pick up the new one... been many, many years since I really listened to them.

yes, hard to accuse them of being sell-outs when they've said all along that they were out to make a few bucks and never claimed to be interested on something else.

no hidden agenda's there. :)

all great songs bobstar! :)

when I saw Kiss this summer I nearly slapped a girl standing near me silly when Paul was taking requests for the first of 6 encores... she yelled "play something we know" ... this after they spent 2 hours playing nearly every one of their biggest hits of their career (including the Kiss Alive set in it's entirety). I was like "she did not just say that!" ... basically if you didn't recognize ANY of the songs they'd played up to that point, you probably weren't a Kiss fan because even if you only had a greatest hits cd, you'd heard most of these songs.
