This guy asks the question that I imagine is on allot of fans mind. He also gives the history leading up to the question. So what do you guys think?

I would say I am cautiously optimistic. Metallica went from thrash metal, to hard rock to sludge rock. If they can find something in between the hard rock and thrash metal - with the return of the guitar solos - I think they could become credible again. Letting Hammett and Trullio deal with the media is a great move too as most of us would rather throw something at Lars then listen to what he has to say. I can remember seeing them live on the Black Album tour and it was an amazing show - filled with aggression and energy. I saw them again on either the Load or Re-Load tour and they tried to make make it over the top with two stages - running between the two - but it fell flat. I miss the Metallica that left the stage after 2-3 hours and the crowd was begging for more.

First, something needs to be cleared out. THE NEW METALLICA IS NOT ACTUALLY METALLICA. This Metallica is Gay-tallica, the horrible one. Before there was St. Anger, Load, Reload, and the Black Album (not naming them in a particular order), there were albums like Master Of Puppets, Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, and ...And Justice For All. These albums were amazing. Not only did they have actual good musicianship such as Cliff Burton's bass mastery and the rhythmic genius of James Hetfield, but also they had the spirit of old school 80's thrash metal. This music was to the point: it was fast and furious. Metallica was a band that had vision. They took that mold and expanded it to allow the nine minute songs that defined their sound. It was a terrible thing to see a band like this literally become unable to play their own material. It is a shame to hear about bands like Trivium (horrible band, by the way) that are supposedly the "Next Metallica", when even Metallica couldn't be the next Metallica now. Whatever Metallica decides to do with their next album, I personally have no care anymore. I hope they can find it in their hearts to go back to the way they were before they got Jason Crap-stead and became all gay. (Ignoring the fact he was on ...And Justice For All. He was mixed out anyway.) The fans of old Metallica would really like a comeback, such as me, but at the point of their career they're at, it doesn't seem like a return to old thrash is gonna happen. It truly makes me sad, because the new bands of today could really use a push from an old band like Metallica. I have full confidence that they could come back and be as extreme as they were. The only bad part is, I don't really decide, do I?

heh Not looking good so far! Anyone seen that video footage of Lars and Dave Mustaine talking it out?
I always liked Dave Mustaine better, I think he got a raw deal, and despite that he's made a real go of it...

Besides, Megadeth always released real albums... Despite the drugs and the booze, Mustaine's always been a force.
Still, I'd give the new Metallica album a shot. I didn't buy St Anger, Only heard one song... I hate Bob Rock... (Anti Guitarsolo)

I agree with you about Mustaine - he did get a raw deal. I don't know if Metallica would have made it with him though. He was their lead guitarist which I find odd since he is not even the lead guitarist in Megadeth. It wasn't until Metallica got Kirk Hammett - who is quoted as saying his wah pedal is a part of him - that they really found their sound.
Mustaine found himself as a rhythm player/singer/song writer with Megadeth and is probably better off as neither he nor Metallica would have gone anywhere (in my opinion) if he had not been booted.

I really like his newest single which features Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil (another diesel band - but for another thread.)
