Does anyone find it weird when people like me, and I have a lot of friends like this too, have such a wide taste in music? I like from the plain white tees, to norma jean, to justin timberlake, to casting crowns. That is just so weird! I dont really like justin timberlake that much, but sexy back is like my theme song!!! Anyone have any comments? Are you like me, not like me, hate me, love me, or just want to boost my webcredit. lol

Liking a wide range of music is not weird. It's healthy and it removes the danger of you ending up in a rut.

There is a big difference with what I'm ok listening to when others play them and what I will buy and play at home. What I buy is limited and what I listen to often is even more so. But what I can listen to without getting bored or annoyed maybe even enjoy it is all over the music spectrm. As long as the sound is objectively good, I'm cool with it.

But there are some things that sound terrible, not because of the type of music, but because of the artist and mix.

I think it's great that your tastes range far and wide. There are so many tremendously talented people playing and singing music, you would be doing yourself a disservice to limit what you appreciate.

And no, it isn't weird: just unusual.

I only like music that has a lot of electric guitar these days, like Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, etc. My patience for listening to crap is dwindling rapidly.

And I rarely buy a cd these days, I mostly listen to stuff from youtube or watch performances on TV.

One relatively new group I like is Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, a lot of good guitar playing in their songs, and the songs themselves are good, also.

As far as acoustic guitar playing goes, I like Rodrigo and Gabriella, but that's about it.

I'm pretty diverse in my musical tastes, too. On my itunes I have everything from Pink Floyd to Between The Buried and Me, and even Miles Davis and the Grateful Dead. That's just a small representation, too. I've got stuff from Black Sabbath to bluegrass, and it doesn't make me odd. Now scene kids are people who are odd. Same with hobos.

it's good that you're open to all music regardless of their genre...in my school people are afraid to say they like pop music because everybody thinks pop music sucks...which is not true. pop simply means popular - and there are reasons why they're popular. people are not stupid.

if you put yourself into just one genre because of what "others" think you will stop grow as a musician..

I listen to techno/trance to heavy metal, indie rock, rap, and even some gypsy jazz - and 80's songs are my guilty pleasure.
Where words fail, music speaks.

just for a reminder...that's not as wide as it gets...

i hate it when people say "oh i like everything" and when it comes down to it, it's really just a bunch of pop music.

You've got - post-punk, acapella, choral, barbershop, madrigal, gregorian chant music, gospel, bebop jazz, gypsy jazz, freak folk, latin classical, baroque, romantic, impressionism, modern classical, experimental indie, noise rock, house, down tempo, electronica, zouk, .....holy crap...i could go on. you have music you can't even describe ala Harry Partch...there's eastern music...

expand what "everything" means. there's a lot more music out there than pop music made within the last 5 years.

That's not wierd at all...most people are the same as all of us, they just want to look cooler to their emo friends by saying they hate Justin Timberlake. I really am a person who likes almost everything. I just don't like certain songs or certain artists. For example, I could throw Celine Dion's scrawny ass in an oven. But I like the Backstreet Boys, Mushroomhead, Nirvana, Paramore, Kanye West, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon, Judas Priest, and Queen. I even like Beethoven. Wow. See? Not wierd...just honest.
