These days, I'm listening to traditional jazz and mostly standards. But I also listen to a lot of older pop music, stuff like Chicago and Cheap Trick and much cheezier stuff. A lot of people would laugh if they saw what I have in my car's CD holder...

Mostly psychedelic and psychedelic influenced stuff. Since most of the bands from the sixties were one hit wonders, I listen to Nuggets compilations. Modern day, it's a lot of Sonic Youth, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. I also love mid sixties stuff, especially when rock was really taking off and everything was new; everything from early electric Dylan to the VU.

Currently, my favorite band is Wilco. I see them live every chance I get.

Sometimes I get a craving for non guitar stuff like Indian music (with those sick tabla players), experimental percussion by Glenn Kotche, Greek music with lotsa bouzouki, eighties hip hop, and crazy jazz like Hugh Masekela .

Joba says: "A lot of people would laugh if they saw what I have in my car's CD holder... "

It is amazing how 'personal' music can be, -- to the level where people looking through our musical-preferences is like having them watch you cross the room in your underwear.

When I go to a 'new' friends home -- I check-out their music and their books. More than even the food they have in the frig -- it can tell me SO much about where they've been and where they 'are'.

Not certain about you'all -- but the music I am 'into' is NOT the same as the music I play. I am 'into' a lot of stuff I have no desire (or ability) to play, but have a HUGE appreciation for it. I love horns -- but can't play a trumpet or bone.

I 'listen' to everything, appreciate most everything -- play what I can. Just no rap, please. Something with rhythm, melody and character rocks my boat.

Brilliant analogy! I am the same way!

Death pop, synth grunge, and lounge metal. Definitely my favorites :-P

Actually I listen to anything with guitars (and some things that don't have them...i.e. classcal, baroque, romantic, french impressionism, etc). Beethoven and Ravel are my favorite composers, with Vaughan Williams taking a close second.

Mostly metal and hard rock though, just to simplify things ;)
