I don't know as that I have any now. I would have told you 5 years ago, TOOL, but becoming more involved in musical theory has caused me to enjoy a lot more than just TOOL. I have opened up to The Mars Volta, Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, Murder By Death... etc. Sorry to not have any one, but have more than my share of favorites. My favorite guitarist is Joe Satriani. My favorite pop singer was Howard Jones, My favorite bassist is a toss up between P-Nut, from 311, and Justin Chancellor from TOOL. Favorite Jazz is Miles Davis. Favorite Heavy band is Mastodon, for now. But I also Love Mudvayne. Favorite classic rock band is Pink Floyd.

Too many good ones to have just one:

(early/mid) Helloween, Anathema, Judas Priest, Depeche Mode, & Apoptygma Berzerk.

I like hundreds of bands, but those 5 are the consistent ones I've come back to year after year after year and still very much enjoy.

I'm also addicted to Beethoven symphony cycles, and would cite him as my all time favorite..followed by a number of romantic composers.

Actually, Anathema started off as sort of a death metal band, growls included. But then the "singer" left and without someone to do vocals, the main song writer/guitarist gave his inexperienced brother a shot ..and they discovered that he had a hell of a voice! So now he's a member and they started writing more melodic music to suit his brothers voice. That was albums and years ago, but that's sort of their basic story. They're far away from the death metal style now, and have been for over a decade.

This is some of their more recent stuff:

Here's an older one with the same singer:

It's different all the time, but one that stays with me, especially for guitar, is Psychotic Waltz.

Lately it goes like this..........

Instrumental - Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Mattias 'IA' Eklundh.

Bands - Freak Kitchen, Dream Theater.

Then I spend the bits in between with random stuff like Newton Faulkner, Django Reinhardt, Satch, Vai, Muse etc, the list is endless really, I just like good music with some talented people at the wheel.

Thats the very one Hetjr

There are two Mattias solo albums I think,

Freak Guitar and Freak Guitar: The Road Less Traveled.

I have FG:TRLT, 22 tracks of Mattias Mayhem. I can only listen to it once a week as it makes me cry and wonder why I didn't practice more......

Check out his band Freak Kitchen, I posted a thread here with some tracks off the new album a couple of days ago. Man its good.

I have to confine this to current bands I have seen live or we'll break the server.
Its a close call between two very different bands. I have to put them in the order I came across them.
Bad Religion. Not the greatest musicians around but their shows are a total gas
Iron & Wine. The 8 strong touring band is a knock-out. Brilliant musicians and wonderful songs.

I'm not sure how they would compare with old chums like The Gods, Slack Alice, Uriah Heep and Ark from the eighties. Ark were friends so I might have a slight bias.

I love many bands and artists from many different styles and genres from metal to blues to hair bands to classical.

But my all time favorite, go-to band has always been AC/DC.

Just a good, solid rock and roll band that you can always count on to be who they are. They've never tried to "reinvent" themselves or "explore new avenues" or anything else that so many bands end up doing.

AC/DC is great
Any band / solo project by Clapton
GnR and any project lucky enough to have Slash

I was shampooing the rugs in my apartment and wife/kid were out for the day about a month ago. I had just downloaded Pandora Radio for the Blackberry so plugged in the headset and just kept voting on songs for about 3-4 straight hours. End result: Weezer and Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorites.
