Since I've been a member of this virtual community, I've wondered if any big named guitarists have been lurking on this and other sites to see what we've been saying about them and their music, I know I would! It's the best way to find out what your core audience thinks of you and the direction you may be heading in. What better way to understand your audience than to listen to them directly.

Well, sometimes i like to pretend that I'm Paul Gilbert, but I don't think that counts...

Honestly I've been wondering the same thing. I doubt they would be willing to come forward though for the simple reason that anonymity is a rare gift when you're world-famous. We can certainly dream though!

I don't know if Gcom is big enough yet to matter... If I were a big name I'd be probably quite busy doing other stuff...

I think many big guitar players love their craft as much, if not more than us hobbyists. So they would be wanting to visit guitar websites just like we do. And you never know, any one of us could be a big name player. But I assure you, I'm not one. But if I were, I'd deny it anyway.

When I was searching for Erk's "DoctorSong" guitar straps on Google, I came across his original post on the subject. I then Googled myself and found different posts that I had made here, so I suppose if Paul Gilbert Googled himself, he would come up with hundreds of sites and references to his name, and he could possibly run across this site. A more likely scenario would be that he would comb the guitar chat sites to see what we, and other guys on other sites, are into, what we like, don't like, etc. A guy like Gilbert has to know that when people talk to him face to face, they aren't going to say, "I really love your stuff Paul, but I have to say, that last album kinda' sucked. What were you thinking?" But now that artists have internet access on tour buses and some time in between shows, who can say? I know I would want to keep track of what people thought so I know what to do and what not to do to keep the people who buy my material happy. I know Eddie Van Halen mentioned once that he was rather unhappy with what people were saying about him on-line during the Chreone days, so he had to be looking somewhere. And DC, we all know your really Steve Vai, please don't deny it, I beg you 8-)

Even if some big name guy was on here reading and posting, if they came out and admitted it who would believe them.

If I said I was Angus Young using a different picture, I wouldn't even believe me.

Oh there's no way anyone would believe them, unless they posted a video of themselves typing while on guitar.com, or something, which they would never do. I'm just talking about them lurking on here. Possibly posting under some other name. It's possible, You never know in the virtual world.

i think there is a possibility that some " lurking " of this type may take place, but i doubt that it is very common. many big name celebs probably consider themselves to be above it, not to mention the fact that they are busy with either touring, recording, or going out to spend their money. LOL

I know Steve Vai posted some of his videos with The Holland Orchestra on You Tube. That is actually a part of the DVD,I think only he is allowed to post some of that stuff on the net because he made it. But I remember hearing one gutiarist that he visits various sites that have to say somethig about him. Can`t remmember now...

If i were famous i would lurk not just to find out what people were saying but to also find out which direction the guitarist community was moving in and stay in touch with it.

To bad im not. It wouldn't take long to spend all that money I'd get a room full of toys just like Paul Gilbert
