Freddy King was one of the guitarists that made the gibson 335 guitar famous, and he was a brilliant musician, who has had a HUGE impact on my playing. I want to see if there is anyone out there like me who thinks Freddy should be recognized with a signature guitar?

Did his 335 have anything unusual or original or different in any way than production line specs? Something that made his guitar stand out from the rest? If not, there's no material for a signature model.

There are quite a few guitarist over the years who did not have a signature, and they actually deserved one. And then there are those that have signatures that I don't understand why they do. On the same token, some of those guitarists did not want to have a guitar named after them, I believe.

Well, to begin with, Freddy didn't use a 335. It was a 355 or a 345 depending on when you happened to see him and in the "early years" it was a Gold Top Les Paul with P90's.

Second. BB pretty much has the 355 Sig Market locked up.

Third, all the guitars Freddy had were just "straight up" off the shelf pieces. Nothing changed

I believe it was a stock 335. And no, it was not a 345. The 345 has a varitone. the 355 only came in black, so it wasn't that either. And BB's lucille is a modofied ES-345, not 355. Yes, early on he had an LP. Freddy may not have wanted a signature model. That was the case with hendricks. Sorry duane, but i have to say, you were misinformed.

I'm sorry man but.. look at the freddy king web site or any video on the net.. That is most definitely a 345 in one and a 355 in the others. 355's do not "only come in black" they came in Red and Sunburst (trust me on this I have one). You can tell by looking at the headstock. See the "split diamond" inlay and the ebony board ? That's a 355. Lucille is a straight up 355 without the F holes. Just so you know here is the deal..

345 = an upgraded 335 with Gold hardware/varitone/split inlay
355 = an upgraded 345 with Gold hardware/ebony board/split diamond headstock/Stereo or Mono available/ Mono Version without Varitone/block inlays/Grover Tuners (in most cases).

Sorry, but the lucille is NOT a 355. Look it up. Varitone. It has a 345's powerful tone, not the 355's warm and chunky tone. It even says 345 on the gibson website somewhere. It says it is a modified 345 on musicians friend, and the epiphone website. 345, man. Every 355 i've seen had a bigsby, also. the lucille does not. are you sure you have a 355 and not a 335 or 345?

Ibanez is EXTREMELY proud of vai and satriani, and both have a well advertized line of signature guitars. Vai has a signature amp from carvin, and satriani also has a signayure series of amps from peavey. Ibanez makes the guitars. Vai and satriani are Ibanez fanatics when it comes to guitars.

I'm always leery of companies that make "signature" models for guys who are already dead. With, say, a Clapton model, EC at least has to decide the guitar is worth putting his name on before it gets sold.

"Sorry, but the lucille is NOT a 355. Look it up. Varitone"

"Every 355 i've seen had a bigsby, also. the lucille does not. are you sure you have a 355 and not a 335 or 345?

"Gibson Lucille

In 1981, Gibson Guitar Corporation launched the B. B. King Lucille model.The most noticeable differences between the Lucille and the ES-355 on which it is based are the "Lucille" script on the headstock and the lack of F-holes on the top. The top has no F-holes at B. B. King's request, in order to control feedback better"

Second source::

"The ES-355 was available with a Vibrola tremolo unit or a Bigsby tremolo unit. It had also been offered with stereo output and Varitone tone filter circuitry.[2] When fitted with the optional stereo wiring and Varitone, the model was known as the ES-355TD-SV. The stereo wiring provided both stereo and mono connections, with two output jacks on the lower bout. The Varitone circuitry featured a six-position switch that adds capacitors of different value to the circuit. The capacitors act as a notch filter, such that each position on the switch shifts the center of the notch from higher to lower frequencies. Varitone

The ES-355 was widely used by blues musician B. B. King, who has been featured in Gibson publicity for the model from the 1960s onwards. Many other guitarists have also used the model.

Yep.. I'm pretty sure about what guitars I own... I would suggest you go here and check on the differences between a 345/355/335...

Good Luck.

EDIT::: Oh my goodness.. pictures of Freddie, BB, Luther all playing their 355's.. what IS the world coming to.
