Alex, Rui was only kidding. Don't spit out some random stuff, just take it like a joke like most other people did. Make a suggestion to the poster, and if that isn't what you are doing, try to keep it relevant.

So as not to be hypocritical, I think that the more knowledge you have, the faster you will progress in music. Try to look at reviews of the books, and take some lessons so you can take in as much as possible. Keep up the good work!

Ok man, I gave you a web credit for being eager to learn. Anything that you can get your hands on to learn how to play better is a good thing. Don't let others me included talk you into doing something. I started playing by reading a lot of books on music theory, chords anything I could to make myself get better. When it comes right down to it reading and then putting it to practice is a good thing.

I've tried tons of books. They've all been a little helpful but never what I was hoping for. I've advanced the most and learned the most by playing with people who are better than me. I grew more as a player in 2 months in a good band than I did in over a year of lessons or a lifetime of books.

Ok some may have thought that I was stating that books is the only way to go. I agree that playing guitar with others is helpful in getting better but if you don't understand what you are doing to start with then you really gain nothing. You have to be able to read music, get the root of the note, be able to confer what you are doing with the people that you are playing along with. I started when I was 16 and found myself doing the same old thing over and over because I didn't want to take the time to learn how music was created to start with. Now that i am 46 I am taking the time to learn from books, inter-net, other people and by doing this I am better than I was at 16. By the way I quit playing for a very long time, I just picked it up again and now I understand what is going on.
