What kind of picks do you recommend? I personally love the big thick ones when I am not using my fingers which is what I do the most.

I like thick small picks. My favorite is the dunlap Jazz III. It's thick, small, and awesome! I strongly recomend trying one out!

I live in Alaska, maybe it won't be hard to find one? :) I actually use a pick that was forged from the Holy Grail myself, it's pretty sweet, lets me pick about 5000 notes per second

I always use a pick called wedgie,,, it has a moulded base that fits me perfectly and its made of some sellouse something kinda plastic,,,, whate ever its made from its rock hard and can withstand my rough technique along with the pinched harmonics,,, i kinda tend to dig into the strings abit hard to pull them out to the fullest, which i have found with my old dunlops didnt last more than a week. these things last me about 6 months a peice for 2 hours a day,,,,,,,, definatly recommend them.
Wedgie
dont forget it.

metal picks really can ruin a finnish on a guitar, they also gind down on the string and cover ur pups in a nasty ally filling dust,,,,,, not good dude.

I'm the only one I know who uses .38mm picks. Paper thin. They require precision to use. Then again I pretty much only play 12 strings, so the advantage here is the ability to pick only one string on an octave set at a time. Thicker picks tend to catch the second string and result in loss of detail.

i use a real thin one (i'd tell you the size exactly but i use it so much its worn off), i've had if for about 6 months and its no worse than before :D i find thicker ones to be harder to use tbh, because you cant be as accurate or gentle with the strings.

For me, it depends on the type of music that I am going to play...older style metal I would use a thick pick....jazz...a more softer pick....speed of the song dictates the pick, for me anyway...

Again I'd love it if this dylangarrett person wasn't using a picture of me as an icon.

That would really kick ass.

I gave up on plastic picks, because I got tired of replacing them. Still keep a .8mm cellulose pick and a thumb pick for my acoustics, but the electric is getting treated with metal picks. I have a light hand and these help me get more out of the strings while also reducing the annoying clicking of plastic picks. And occasionally they double as screw drivers hehehe...

I've been using the metal picks for many months now, and none of my strings was filed down or broken or anything of the sort. It used to be a steel pick, now it is a brass pick. The shape of the latter fits better as it doesn't dig as deep.
