Learn a million scales, and learn how to read music (not tabs) better than you can read english.

Good post....I've been kind of wondering the same thing. I'm anxious to give this a shot. I fear that learning jazz will remind of me calculus. I mean I was darn good at math but calculus was brutal. I get intimidated when I hear jazz. How the hell do you play that on the guitiar??? But I will perserve!! You as well.

I've been learning to read music as of late as well as the scales so I'll continue to work on this foundation.

When you're not learning new tunes make good use of your down time by listening. Get some John Coltrane records, and Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, maybe some Cannonball Adderly. As a guitar player though you might first consider listening to what players like Wes Montgomery, Freddy Green, Kenny Burrell, and Pat Metheny have done. Chord/scale relationships (modes) are key to improvising melodies as well as good knowledge of chord and arpeggio voicings. I think listening is the most important thing you can do as you immerse yourself into a new style of music.

I enjoy skinny skiing, heckling figure skaters, flamenco guitar, the blue stuff you put your combs in, good drummers, focaccia bread and coffee out of a french press
