Hi Shane. Here's our official description of webcred:

WebCred

A system by which ones internet based credentials can be measured. That is to say how your peers rate your performance and general attitude as it pertains to written word, audio and video on guitar.com.

Your WebCred determines how much your seed is seeded throughout the guitar.com community. The higher your WebCred the more places your gear and music recommendations show up. The higher your WebCred the more you'll be taken seriously. The higher your WebCred the more attractive members of the opposite will flock to you. No, not really. But a high WebCred on guitar.com means you're a respected member of the community, the more you are of that, the more exposure you get and that could lead to money in your pocket and official pimp status. What if you could support your insatiable Starbucks habit by just being active on guitar.com and not being a jerk? Would it be worth it? We think so.

Our formula for WebCred is a simple: Ratings on your audition video+The total ratings of your forum comments+ The total ratings of your blogs = Your WebCred.

Peace, love and high WebCred to all.

You use the up(+1)/down(-1) arrows on the right, over here ------------------------------------>

Also you use the slider next to audition videos, and the slider over the blog entries.

I take offense to that, "anyone who has less webcredit than u is a loser" remark. just kidding, i know im a loser. I have 0, but if you multiply that by 5, you get.....hold on..............oh....crap....00.better than just 1 zero i guess!

Web cred is a nice feature and seems to do a fairly good job of what it proposes to do. I'm not as sold on the idea of positive/negative web cred. I do appreciate the need for proper conduct and understand how the spectre of negative web cred may encourage that. But many on this forum abuse it - primarily to punish people having a different perspective, or who won't cow.

Individuals, by definition, are not the same. That opinions will differ is inevitable. Yet, some here on Guitar dot com come unglued when presented with a slightly foreign, novel, or unusual idea. It's absurd. It's the very antithesis of creativity.
Those same people wouldn't expect two guitarists to take a solo and play exactly the same thing, yet when confronted with an opinion that isn't exactly the same as theirs, they react as if they're under attack! - as if only their own ideas can possibly have merit, and anything else is heresy.

We should be able to show appreciation when someone is helpful, but not able penalize someone because we don't particularly like them. For those who gauge their own self-worth by whether or not people agree with them, negative web cred serves as little more than an opportunity to stab someone in the back, in the dark. I'm sorry if this pisses somebody off. But it doesn't really make any difference, you see. It's just my opinion.
