Any suggestion on what type of strings I should get as a beginner? I am sure I could just go and pick up anything but I want something that will sound good if I actually am able to play well.

I use ernie balls... just pick whatever gauge is already on your guitar. I use 9s so theyre super slinkys. Those are pretty much all ive used, cant recommend anything else.

I have tried a couple of types of strings and i personally love D'Addario's. They have a little bit of a twangy sound which i personally like. Also if you want to learn a song with alot of bends lighter guage strings are easier to bend. Thicker strings are harder to bend and have a slightly bassier sound to them. If you don't know what you want to play go with 10 or 11's they are in the middle between light and heavy.

i like ernie ball on electric and dean markley on acoustic.

i tried elixr once and they felt really crappy to me, but hey, thats why they make lots of different ones to pick from.

Gibson Brite Wires. They feel super smooth, and I love 'em for it.

GHS Boomer .10's, the thing is when i play on .10's then go to .09's they feel like spaghetti under my fingers, bend too easy and tend to slip out from under my fingers. pick a gauge and stick with it.
