Who feels like making some music? I think it's time to write some more songs. I'm not very good on guitar yet (still learning), and I'm pretty much bottom of the barrel on recording equipment, but I can write music and lyrics, and I sing pretty good, and I want to get some of the awesome talent on this site working with me on a song or two. ESPECIALLY those of you who have done stuff like this before. I had originally named specific people, but that seemed unfair, considering the talent pool this site offers. If no one's down, that's cool, I just thought it would be fun. We could call ourselves Collabo-rama. :o)

I'll be gone the rest of the week...my kid's birthday is tomorrow, and his party is Saturday, so I'll be focusing my energy there, but let me know if you're interested and I'll check back on Monday. You could even get started without me, and I'll just build on what everyone else has.

I really hope we can get this going....it could be very interesting.

Liz - Generally I work stuff alone, but maybe the one thing I can help with is lyrical content. This is always a touchy thing as most people get offended when someone suggests a change in lyrics. Music is a different animal and while there may be disagreements there, they are usually resolved with references to theory, song structure, etc. Lyrics tend to be personal so a change is usually perceived as a personal attack.

More of my experience in music is in developing lyrics. I completely fail at the idea portion of it, so my own lyrics were generally taken from writings of the first ex-wife and, even though she hated me doing it, she gets 50% credit as writer. (I usually only used a line or a few words from what she wrote.) In fact, one of those songs may end up on the compilation. I also work with a local songwriter and change his lyrical content too. It's taken him a while to realize that the changes, while not exactly fitting his view of his art, result in something more people understand and enjoy. Meaning he sells more of his stuff. (I buy stuff from him too. Actually in trade for what I do.) A couple of those songs will also be on our compilation.

Anyway, if you're open, I can either go over what you have and suggest changes for flow, clarity, structure and punch, or I can rewrite stuff and you can decide. In NO CASE will I use ANY of what you write without your permission. (I would suggest NOT posting lyrics here if you don't already have a copyright, even though the law says it's copyrighted as soon as you write it. This is a cutthroat, nasty, business.) I can send you some of the lyrics I have, if you'd like to know what I do with them.

It's all your call.

My problem is I'm too lazy to record. I have all the gear, but I end up playing Call of Duty when I boot my computer. But I'm not too lazy to practice though. I've been on g.com for many years and I never submitted a recording of my playing. But one day I'll shock you guys and submit a song.

Currently I waste all my computer time on facebook. If you want me in though, it would give me some motivation to get back to recording stuff and hopefully finish some of my pending projects.

Okay, so the fun begins Monday. I'll work up some lyrics to build on with Xark. We can do as many or as few songs as anyone wants to, but I say let's just start with one. What kind of song do you all want to make? Specifically, do you want to do metal, punk, or classic rock style, or something totally different? So many possibilities....Oh! and of COURSE I want you in, ibzRG. No question. :o)

Rock it out, biotches.

Cool Liz! I'd love to work on some lyrics with you!! Getting tired of the same old views from those I currently work with. This should be fun!

Check your email in a little bit. I think I've got some old stuff of mine you might enjoy...

I do have bluesy-funky backing lying around, if it's something you could sing over...

That backing sounds like it would fit some of the lyrics Xark emailed me. Let me do some work over the weekend and I'll send you something on Monday. I like it... :o)

Sure. Don't press it though if it doesn't fit. I'm really not the best person for putting together backing tracks (I have real trouble keeping in sync with myself) so you might be better off with someone else's backing.

Bumping the thread...

Okay, so I didn't have any time to work on stuff this weekend. However, I will be able to get some stuff done this evening, so I'll update my progress tomorrow. Sorry, guys...it was a very busy weekend.

thanks Xark...it went well...for the kids anyway. Okay, so I really liked some lyrics Xark emailed me ("You Show Me..." for Xark's info...:oP) and I really like the blues backing IBZ posted, so I'm going to do some work to arrange the two together. I may need to tweek your backing, IBZ, if that's okay. I'll post a rough piece soon (meaning by Tuesday).

Yeah,I need to tweak that myself too. I think there are misaligned tracks in there. Having two guitar tracks isn't helping.

I was thinking of ditching the two electric guitar tracks, I'm not too happy with their sound or their timing. I'm thinking to make a track with the 12string acoustic instead. What do you think?

Anyway, let me know if you want the individual tracks.
