Ok, i want to buy one, but one problem i have is i can find one with a hum bucker installed, how difficult is it to put a hum bucker in the bottom most pickup. Cause it is slanted, leading me to believe that there might be room, but i do not have one to know. Does any know if they are made for a hum bucker to be easily installed, without buying a new body, having any work done to the original.

there should be room. and if not, there are options. you could dremmel drill out a cavitly. you could look at getting a hot rail pickup(it's a humbukcer that fits in a single coil spot).

Ryan,

If you want a double humbucker installed, your going to have to route out it's single coil cavity. There is also another option. There are single coil humbuckers. DiMarzio makes Area 58's and 61's, Seymour Duncan makes "Hotrail pickups" to cancel the 60 cycle hum, if that's what your after. If you haven't bought the guitar yet, Fender must make a zillion strats with double humbuckers in the bridge, (bottom), position, so you don't have to buy a single coil strat and change it around.

Ya most HSS Strats have your PUPs lined up the way you want them.

Ryan,

If you don't mind me asking, what is your situation? Why is it so difficult to find one? Just curious.

I can buy one for 400$, but i have alittle less than 300, no job, no source of income, and the only source of income that i can see in the near future is what i need the damn guitar for. :/

I found an HSS mex strat for $399 without even looking that hard. It's a nice guitar at a great price in my opinion. Good luck.

Well, retrofitting a humbucker on an SSS strat is not going to be cheaper than getting a fat strat to begin with. Pups are not cheap and you'll need a new pickguard and possibly different pots. And that's just assuming you'll do the mod yourself.

Then again there is the option of getting the guitar, earning money with it and modding it later on.

And if you can't find a HSS strat in your area, don't be afraid to look into other brands, yamaha, ibanez...

I'm confused. You want a strat but you want one with a Humbucker in the bridge but you have no money but yet you want to know if you can install a hum in the bridge on this non-existent strat.. Is that about it. ??

with 300 dollars you'll have to find a stat for 150 or less max. Then buy a pickup then the pickguard, probably pots, etc.. It isn't gonna happen for ya unless you come up with more money and then just buy the fat strat and call it good..

btw, the EASIEST way in the word to know the routing is just take off the pick guard and look. 8 screws.. really not that hard then you have no questions.. With that said.. Most strats these days (unless they are custom shop or vintage re-issues") have swimming pool routes to begin with ..

If I were you I wouldn't try to alter the strat body.
There are alot of effect out there that will give you a humbucking sound.
If you really want humbucking in the body I would get a body from Warmth or USA guitar parts and have them rout it for the pickups you want
I build Strats and teles for people and the strat you are talking about would run you as much a good US made fender strat.
