I'm in the market for a new guitar but i'm torn about where to look. I know i want 6 strings, 24 frets, and a whammy bar/tremelo, and i need it to be able to play most styles of metal and rock. If money was no object what would you get? I was looking at Schecter, Ibanez, PRS, and Jackson.
thanks

Money no object? Well, it isn't really, unless you're talking about a $30,000 guitar, so my choice would be Gibson. I know, not one you mentioned, but then I'm a 12 string acoustic player, so I don't really know anything, other than what I hear on a daily basis in the studio.

Get a custom shop Jackson. Personally, I'd get a warrior body shape, but with a sleeker body (more like the Ibanez xiphos) neckthru, maple neck, alder body, 27 frets, original floyd rose, 2 humbuckers (seymour duncan) with one of two paint jobs, either

1. Black body with tribal gold pinstripes
2. Snakeskin (like Charvel makes) only purple as the main colour and have the darkened areas turn to a dark green instead of a black.

Thing is probably really expensive.

schecter hellraiser with the EMG's and floyd is a great axe for the money. The other guitar player in my band has one. BC Rich has some neck thru models out this year that are pretty sweet for a good price. the "deluxe" models are all going for around 699.

27 frets???

There is a video on Youtube where Michael Angelo Batio is playing a guitar with more then 24 frets. I don't know how many frets there were but it's an example.

Id Say its A Throw Up, Jackson SL1 Soloists Are Great Guitars. 24 frets, Floyd Rose. Two SIngle Pickups and A Humbucker, The Eerie Dess Swirl Finish Is BADASS. Its Painted Throughout so the neck even has the finish on it. Its Neck Thru design as well. Retails (with that finish) @ 2299.99. The DK2 with the same finish sounds very nice as well, and looks good and can easlily keep up with its More expensive cousin.**

**DK2 @ 799.99

I personally Choose a guitar between 700-1200 dollars. Cause if you buy a Custom 2000+ guitar, and you gig and it gets fucked up. Its Expensive to replace and a neck thru to fix is more than it cost especially if neck breaks, its more than the guitar was. Bolt ons you can buy a new neck...

Any way Go with what you want its just a suggestion, Ibanezs Up in that price range are 2nd to none as well.

( and to all, if you break a guitar, buy a new one unless it has sentimental value youll save money. Ex. Refretting -$100-180 + Labor ?? depends where ya go. that could be up near four hundred cause they will keep your stuff to "properly repair it") My friends acoustic cost him $350, the neck broke after it was done the repair and labor was 800. Fk That.

either an old USA custom shop ibanez, or a current Japanese prestige model.

This one actually catches my eye every time...too bad it's $1200 USD :(

Just a note people... he said 24 frets. So no Gibsons [to my knowledge].

I personally would go with a jackson, or a warmoth. I prefer set or neck-thru because I hate having a heel on my guitar, but if you don't mind a warmoth would be cool to customize everything.
