Any amp by Line 6. If you want an amp that doesn't suck, just buy one. Their newest one is the Spider III, which has a bunch of different knobs that work different effects on the amp, no pedals required (except for a footswitch, maybe). It also can get amp models and effects off of the internet, and you can save them on shortcut buttons so you can get the tone you want without having to mess with knobs for seven hours.

I own a Peavy, it's a good tube amp. The only reason I didn't buy a Spider at all is because I already had a Line 6 POD, so putting it through an amp that does the exact same thing would've destroyed my sound. Either one of the amps I mentioned are amazing.

Well, I have a Marshall 250 DFX, and I am very satisfied with it. It's a 100 watt double cab, so it's pretty loud at times, but I have had no technical issues with it, and it sounds great! You can get one for about $500.

I would recommend the Laney mxd-120 twin. It's a solid state, but it does a pretty decent impersonation of a tube. Metal speaker grill (extra tough for those gigs that get out of hand), a selection of digital effects. 120 watts. Plus, because it's a twin combo, it's a lot easier to haul around than a stack.

What do you want to use the amp for? What sound are you looking for? What is your price range?

Anything in a Fender tube amp sounds great to me. But, if you want LOUD, definitely look into Marshall.

Later,
Fred

Figure out what you can afford, then check around to your local music shops. I dont know of any music shops that won't let you take one for a test drive. You'll eventually find one that sounds good to you. Anyone on here could recommend a good amp, but it all boils down to what you're personal prefrence is.

Gooc luck and happy hunting!

If you are playing single coils I would look at Fenders. If you are playing humbuckers I would check out Marshall. These are the standards and a great place to start. If you can afford it, tube amps are much better. If not an Ibanez Tube Screamer will get you closer to the tube sound. These are the safe choices and you cant go wrong.

I recently got a small Marshall 15w amp w/ reverb/distortiaon. Under $200. Perfect for me whaling away in the basement. The wifey bought me some cool headphones as well, though I think those were more for herself. Like others have said, depends on what your needs/interests are but try out several and fine one you like.

I just plugged into a Peavey Valve King half stack the other day at a local shop. Now, I've never been a big fan of Peavey, but that thing was incredible and I may just save the cash and trade my Fender Ultimate Chorus towards it. If you can afford the $899.99 price tag it's a sweet amp. Nice sound and fairly reasonable for a half stack and tubes at that. I love the Marshalls, but the $2000 to $3000 prices is more than I want to spend.

yea, same here. I bought a marshall mg100 half stack last summer and its great - nice and loud - but now im wishing i had saved up and got a nice fender tube amp but oh well. Its a great amp and well worth the 600 bucks but its just not the same as a good tube amp. Eventually (years down the road) im hoping for a nice fender bassman. maybe someday.....
