what is the difference between a Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar and something like Gibson Les Paul Classic Electric Guitar.

What is a studio guitar? What makes it so much cheaper?

The studio has no binding and the logo is gold, also the neck profile is based on the 59 rounded, as opposed to pearloid and binding on the classic which hasa 60's slim taper neck. there are a few various studios now that have flame maple tops and different finishes but the bog standard studio is how ive described. check the gibson website to compare, you will see what Im on about that way.

Binding is the white stuff around the edges of the body and up the edges of the neck. I think it is plastic but I am not sure...someone help me out here.

The first difference is that there is no binding around the body. The other main difference is the pickups. The classic has burstbuckers and the studio has a 490R and a 498T. The studio is a very nice guitar.

I think the Classic as the same ceramic humbuckers that the Explorers have in them.

It's cheaper because they don't use as much raw materials in making the studio. The binding is left off, fancy inlays are left off, and a few other choice tidbits that a standard or custom Les Paul has that the Studio doesn't, leaving nothing but a stripped-down Les Paul...perfect for the "studio" where looks are of no concern. Which is where the instrument gets its name.
