I was in a local pawn shop the other day and i ran across this guitar and it says Les Paul special on the headstock so I went home and researched it. Les Paul Specials arent equipped with pickguards and this was, so I figured it was an add on and wouldnt increases the value. I went in and offered the guy $250 and he said that its a 52 reissue. I went back home and researched but could not find anything about an epiphone 52 reissue. Any one here heard of one.

Hmmm.. this is confusing..

First.. as far as I know there is no such thing as a 52 LP Special.. the Special didn't appear until 55..

Second.. Need a MUCH better description.. is it an Epiphone? or a "real" Gibson?
Third.. What pickups? Humbuckers or P90's.
Fourth double cut or single?
Fifth bound neck or unbound?
Stop tail or wrap around?

250 for a Epiphone LP special II (if that's what it is) is insane you can buy a new one for a buck fifty.
give details and I'll try to help ya..

$250 is MORE than a fair offer for that guitar. being that it is an epiphone and it has no collectable value. ebay is full of epi's for around $200. the "gibson" les paul was debut-ed in 1952. there is no such thing as a 52 "epiphone" re- issue. and the first les paul was a gold top with soap bar pickups(not humbuckers) "see picture". that guy at the shop is smoking lawn clippings.

Yeah, an Epiphone Les Paul is not a collectible. That guy either (a) doesn't know anything about guitars or (b) was hoping you don't.

"the "gibson" les paul was debut-ed in 1952. there is no such thing as a 52 "epiphone" re- issue"

Correct however; the LP Special (called the Les Paul TV Special) didn't show up until 55..

It's probably a Eppie LP Special.. can buy them anywhere for less than 200. Can get a brand new out of the box Eppie LP Special II for $169.95..

There was a issue of the eppie LP Special with p90's and in a single and double cut version.. Actually not a bad guitar but again.. not anywhere near worth 200.00

Get this, so I went in today and told the guy id give him 150 for the les paul special "52 reissue" . He wouldnt take it so i told him there was no such thing as the 52 reissue so he started to change his tune that it is a les paul quilt top, which it appears to be but it has several differences in headstock writing, im beginning to question if this is a legitimate guitar.

it's probably a legitamate "epiphone guitar. but it doesn't matter. as an eppie, it's still only worth what you offered him. i say forget about it and look elsewhere. that guy is an idiot............
