The description of the Electric Guitar forum says From shred to twang. I see the shred in every other topic but wheres the twang? Anyone around here play any country? Don't get me wrong, i love some good ole Heaviness but i have quite the "twangy" side to me as well. Any other pickers out there?

Does blues count as twang?

Does blues on a superstrat (with proper settings) count as twang?

I'm interested in "twang" but I have a long way to go yet.

I think twang is awesome. My father was a bluegrass player and I consider myself to be a decent country player. I woulk like to see more of it on this site.

I love playing bluegrass and country. Brad Paisley, Johnny Hiland, and Keith Urban are killer guitar players. Jerry Douglas is a BIG inspiration when I play slide or dobro.

I never said I was good at it though. I just like to hear a great bluegrass lead as much as I like to hear Paul Gilbert shred away on some metal.

Cool guys! I'm glad im not alot. I have really been GASing for a Pink Paisley Tele but i can't find one anywhere...not even Ebay!!!

Back on topic...Do you guys use a thumb pick? a la James Burton style? Coming from playing classical when i first started on guitar about 8 years ago i guess im just so used to my thumb that a thumb pick just fumbles up everything i try and do. Alot of guys swear by them....i just can't get the hang of it. Although by chicken pickin does lack a little bit because of it :(

I dont use a thumb pick, although I've tried. I play mostly pick and fingers, it feels more natural to me. although james burton has a killer feel.

Count me in also. I love playing double stops and chicken pickin but I love playing all other styles too. I like to listen to Albert Lee, Brad Paisley, Brent Mason etc. but I think we can learn and like other players like Clapton, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Eddie VanHalen, Steve Vai. Eddie has been known to through some country licks in from time to time like in the solo from " Finish What Ya Started" and Keith Urban is playing a hole lot of 70 blues rock licks. Listen to Reverend Horton Heat and tell me weather it is country, rockabilly or punk. I don't know nor do I care. I know I do like it and have borrowed a few licks from him. All of the different influences we have and listen to makes us better players and keeps our playing fresh. As long as we can keep guitar music alive and never get to the point that all music is made on and generated by a computer the world will be a much better place.
