My recommendation: Invest in a couple months of lessons with a good teacher. That will be the fastet route to get you started in the right direction.

The RP150 has a tuner in it. Keep your guitar in tune. The first thing you should learn are chords. Open chords like A...B7....C...D...E...Am...Em..ect. There are many websites that show you haw to make these chords. Tacking lessons is a good idea.

What I would do is learn some very basic song riffs to get your technique sounding good. Then if you're up to it, it is very important to memorize every note on the fretboard. This will take a long time and will be hard but will pay off big time when you want to start writing your own songs. But always trust your teacher and do EVERYTHING he tells you to.

Memorizing every note on the fretboard is an important step in getting comfortable playing the guitar. But it DOESN"T have to take long.

http://www.guitar.com/kimonf/blog/learn_your_fretboard_finding_the_notes

It should take you only a few hours starting from zero to be able to name any note pointed to you on a fretboard. Then it might take another hour for you to be able to tell every position a certain note is located at. If you then refresh your memory once in a while (a 5min drill once a week then once a month) you'll eventually stop forgetting it.

The software I recommend in that link will also help you a lot with chords and scales.

-Keep your learning fun. Don't make a chore out of learning to play.
-Listen to music that focuses on the style of guitar playing you want to learn.
-Visit your local music store and talk to people, play various guitars, and checkout various equipment. Learn the norms of being a guitar player.
-When you play for friends ask them to tell you the truth about how you are doing and learn to accept the truth and use it to improve.
-Never dis a substandard player because you think you are better than they are. Guitar is a difficult instrument to learn and everyone needs encouragement.

Enough from me... I feel like Morpheus giving advice to Neo....

I got a bit of advice for you.

Always Try working Towards a goal, which also make it achievable. such as maybe you want to play a gig with a few of your friends or whatever. This will help you be in you guitar skill. To be a good guitarists, you must live guitar, not just play it.

Above all else...

Practice, practice, practice...

All the lessons, instructors, books and good advice in the world don't mean a thing unless you practicel

hey learn the basic chords first ok. don't try to start of playing riffs...they are useless unless you know the base chord in which they are being played. Learn the trinities. G,C,D, & D,A,G & C,F,G. Learn these and you'll have a pretty solid foundation in guitar after that you can get into more complicated stuff like minor's, sharps, and flats. but stick to the basics until you feel comfortable changing and you can do them with you eyes closed. remember keep a good pressure on all the the strings and don't listen to anyone who tells you that you have a to play a chord a certain way...bc they obviously aren't very bright. good luck to you
