After reading the guitar competiton topic, I think we should do a new guitar competition. We should do like a tournament, and have 1 vs. 1 guitar duels. Have a bracket, and whoever wants can enter. Both duelists should agree on a song or they could write something of their own or something. Not sure how it would work that way, maybe each solos over a backing track or something. But this is just an idea, anyone agree on it?

I don't know...I've always felt that these contests were a waste of time. I have better things to do than prove to other people that I can indeed play my guitar...besides, I'll just let my music do that :-P

True, and I never said *don't* do it...I just said I won't be involved.

The one good thing about these things is that, as an observer, you get to hear some pretty cool stuff being done by fellow amateurs and hobbyists.

I don't think I need to prove to anyone that I CAN'T really play my guitar.

But that shouldn't keep others from making contests. I'd be happy to just watch/listen.

Too many different styles. You would have to break it down into genres. I know a country picker who is the fastest i have ever seen but he cant play metal at all and I am sure that most metal players cant play his stuff either.

I once watched two guitarists in the same band dueling it, and they were phenomenal, but they were different from each other in their palying . I just am not competitive. I wouldn't care if I was the fastest. It's all in opinions anyway. A lot of that stuff is name recognition, or political anyway. Count me out.

wow... looks like noone is interested. i figured at least a few would be. Even for fun, like a joke or goof kind of thing. and like i said about the styles, both could agree on something in the middle. but ah well.....

Say what you will about Dragonforce, but this is one of the best dueling guitar solos I've seen/heard in a while.

I finally figured out why they sound so funny to me. The guitar tone and speed is like a tape machine playing the tape at twice the speed the music was originally recorded at. If you have ever heard a tape recorder play faster than it should, you know what I mean. :P


And dcunning, if you think I have chops, I must tell you most of you can play circles around me. I'm just too good at hiding my incompetence. Fast is out of the question and anything slow that makes it into public is the product of a whole day's effort at least.
