Perhaps I'm late to the table in posting this, but this seems pretty awesome. Not to mention an obvious step. Get people off the colored buttons and using a REAL guitar.

That is awsome. I refuse to buy guitar hero, I know my wife would practice like crazy and kick my a@@ at it. I prefer picking up the real thing and standing infront of a real crowd with stale beer breath :-).

It was abut time. With decent electronic tuners getting fast in response, it was about time someone made this! Cool Factor Bonus for using each his own guitar.

I love the game, not as much as my real guitar, but its still fun. It's funny though because the hardest songs are actually easier on a real guitar a la All That Remains' Six and Shadows Falls' The Light that Blinds

guitar hero is ok...but if you can play the songs on a real guitar...that's true skill. I like the idea of that game I'm totally gonna get it when it comes out. personally I suck at guitar hero...but nerds who have no life still try to rub it in my face when they beat me...

I got G3 for X-mas last year. It was the game that everyone at my school wanted. After 2 months I could play most of the songs on expert. That got me thinking, "If I could do this in only 2 months, just imagine if I had a real guitar...." Next thing I know, I had picked up by brothers axe. A month later i got my own, and wah-la! Here I am today. Before G3, I didnt care about guitar solos or anything like that; but with guitar hero, i was actually able to "see" how amazingly awesome and difficult the guitar really was, and thats what really inspired me to pick it up.
So thanks Guitar Hero! Maybe someday I really will be one...and I wouldnt be there without you.

My neighbor (i live in a duplex) tortures me with guitar hero at high volumes constantly and my cry since I moved in has been "They should have set it up like a real guitar rather than th GH bullshit!" Now I'm pleased. I'm gonna go tell my neighbor right now. I just hope they have a wide selection of songs like GH. 'S a badass concept a long time coming.

Guitar Hero i something for the small kind that they can't actually play a real guitar . It's a waste of time in my opinion someone to hit some buttons in order to create some fake music. If someone want to play some real music it's best to take a real guitar . Some people are wasting so much time in that game that if they were spending in a real guitar they will learn to play not good but awesome guitar. The only real reason that i can see for someone to take that game is either that want to have some kind of fun and give up real quick or the cost of a real guitar is to high and he take the game. The game as seen has 50 euros and a guitar around 200 so this is the only real advantage of the game vs a real guitar .

I think the reason people love GH so much is that people like to be good at something without really trying and practicing hours a day.

that could be a very powerful teaching tool to teach people to play real guitar. its always easier to learn when your rockin out to some good music.

I personally think it's silly, but I think it's a decent idea which is not without merit.

I view Guitar Hero as a dumbed-down video game compared to the real thing, same as Singstar and real singing. Sure, it can help you develop interest in music and perhaps help you develop some techniques...

...but why not learn the real thing? I stopped playing GH3 when I tried playing it on Hard because I'm pretty damn sure the amount of time spent on learning each song would be close to what I'd spend on a real guitar.

Cool idea though. =o

i HATE GH but thats probably cause i cant even play it on easy. But i have to agree that its a waste of time, id rather waste time practicin the real thing. also kids think there cool cause they can play it on expert, i really have to laugh at them cause there nerds that have nothing better to do

You're all missing the point. GH is a game. It's not meant to substitute guitar or even serve as a practice routine. The GH guitar is just a game controller shaped like a guitar. It could be a regular PS controller for all that matters and it would still be as addictive. How come nobody bashes on steering wheel controllers? Why not send all those racing game addicts out to race with real cars? (well, I bet real-life racers do make fun of us who like racing games). Or why does nobody mock joysticks for trying to imitate the feeling of piloting a plane? It is a game and games are more successful when they imitate as many conditions of the real situation as possible, controller included. Or even forget about controllers. What about people playing virtual sports instead of getting off their butts and going to play real tennis or soccer.

And those who think GH is a waste of time, all I have to say is that ALL games are a waste of time if you think that way.

My pet peeve is why people use machines to simulate jogging or cycling in a gym instead of getting out and jogging for real or riding a real bicycle to work and saving on gas, gym fees and diet/surgery nonsense?

I think guitar hero is waste of time laern to play the real deal... when you are beginnig to see your improvement... its just awesome
it cant possibly be the same with a GH hollow plastic thing (whatever its called)

You're entitled your own opinion, but I find it extremely hypocritical to criticize GH but none of the other video games. Unless you reject ALL simulator games (and I mean all of them, flight, race, sing, dance, guitar, sport and battle simulators and of course the worse of all: the Sims) I find your opinion lacks consistency and therefore I refuse to give your opinion on GH any respect. (and I'm referring to everyone with a similar idea, not just you)

GH is just a game. I wouldn't take it too seriously. It's what GH leads to that has me interested. It obviously paved the way for "Guitar Rising" which may take the art of playing the guitar to new and interesting levels. Today it's learn 30 of your favorite rock songs. Tomorrow it could teach twelve year old kids fretboard gymnastics that would otherwise take a lifetime to learn. Ten years ago people were pessimistic about an on-line encyclopedia. Professors scoffed and refused to allow anything from the Internet to be used in their classrooms, while librarians prayed it would go away. Today we have Wikipedia, which practically every college student uses.
