well, i dont know about hardest or fastest, but i do know one band that takes some serious rhythmic stamina to polay. TRIVIUM. thier sond entrance of the conflagration is quite taxing on the muscles at full speed.

crap, i cant remember the album name, but it is there most recent. the one with the previously mentioned song on it. it has been called "the best metallica album that metallica diddnt write" in fact, i almost think it is better than EVERY metallica album (almost) they are really really good.

Newest Trivium album was The Crusade, just fyi. As for fast or hard riffs, I guess Master of Puppets would be it...

The hardest/fastest riff I can play is probably the intro/main riff to Iron Maiden's "Sea of Madness". Awsome song.

idk The Black Dahlia Murder has some really fast tremelo picking. If you up for the challenge i would learn all of Elder Misanthropy or Closed Casket Requiem. Hope This Helped

trilogy suite by yngwie... though it's been a long time since I tried playing it... I wonder if I can still do it? I never bothered learning the whole song, just the cool sounding riff... not the happy sounding part or the flamenco stuff.

Well, you guys are probably ahead of me on this note, I am picking pretty damn fast, and my fret hand is getting there, but I am still having a hard time incorporating the two. Any suggestions? I would love some. I love blues scales and jazz scales but I want to incorporate that metal fast sweep, and distortion into my playing as well. Not Van Halen style, but more of Nuno Bettencourt and say Kirk Hammett mixed together.

Time and practice. Take it slow at first. Don't worry so much about speed. Just make sure it's clean and on the money. Then work your way up. My basic rule of thumb is, if you do something on a regular basis, like playing and practicing, you will tend to do it well after awhile. Also try using a metronome to develop your timing.
