Hey Everyone,
So I've played guitar for a number of years now (8 or 9 i think) anyhow, I've never really been into music with particularly fast guitar parts or solos and hence although my technique in other aspects of the guitar are great, Ive never been developed the sort of speed you hear in a lot of metal. Anyhow, just recently I've been learning some GnR stuff and have realised my speed is greatly lacking. Obviously, practicing, practicing with a metronome and slowing everything down have been techniques I have been using to increase my speed and I have been gradually, however are there other aspects I should be considering? I think I've realised that its my picking more than my left hand that is slowing me down, but I may be wrong about that.

hmmm, the onle thing I can tell you is to keep at it. Speed is something that has to be developed over time. I take it you know what to do, it's just getting your hands in sync. It might help to watch how someone else does it. That's about the best I can offer. Good Luck!

Use guitar pro and decrease the speed to 30%. Then increase 5% speed each time you play it well.

John Petrucci - Rock Discipline.

That video helped me increase my speed, accuracy, range, everything. Just look it up on youtube.
