i was in a pretty rough car accident about 8 years ago on the way back from a show i was playing. all my gear was in my trunk including a JCM600 head. it got banged up a little, mostly cosmetic i thought, and i stuck it in my basement. recently i pulled it out and plugged it up and it wouldn't make a sound. the tubes light up orange and everything seems fine, but it just doesn't make a sound at all. i opened it up and all the wires seem to be connected and everything looks fine on the inside. i'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or if anyone has some advice? do you think its maybe the tubes? i'd rather not spend money on new tubes and find that that wasn't the problem. would the tubes glow if they were broken?

Not the tubes most likely, but it's a remote possiblity. You would hear sound, but it wouldn't be pretty. If there is no sound, not even the typical hiss that the JCM puts out, then it's most likely there is an issue in the output path. If you're not somewhat skilled in electronics, I would just take it to the shop. It's not like it's something with a bunch of integrated circuit boards that can't be repaired. A good amp tech should have it running in no time.

Yea, if you don't know what you're doing NEVER tinker around inside a tube amp beyond merely changing tubes, or maybe......did you check for any blown fuses?

yeah, i didn't fool around too much on the inside, just checked connections and what not. i checked the fuse and it seems to be fine. i guess i'll just take it to the shop and see if they can't fix it. i don't really like the amp, so i'm hesitant to spend money on it, but until i save up enough to get something nicer, it looks like i'll have to fork over a little cash..thank you guys for your help.

You should have tested that amp after the accident 8 years ago... I would. Why tuck it away without even the curiosity to see if it got damaged. If someone re-ended you and the amp got damaged you could have charged them for the repair maybe.
