There is a local musician in my area who has been performing for many years. He is well respected and a great guitar player. Well over the last few months he has been in a downward spiral. He is hooked on crystal meth and crack and despite attempts from his family and friends, he is going downhill fast. Other musicians in the area have tried to help also but nothing seems to help.

This guy has been calling me every Friday for the last 2 months trying to sell me guitars for practically nothing. I have refused to buy them because I did not want to take advantage of him. He has sold 6 electric guitars including 2 les pauls a tele and a strat.

The way I see it is that he is going to sell them anyway so I am meeting him today on a dirt road to buy a Gibson SG and a Martin acoustic. $200.00 for both if them. I will tell him that I will give him 3 months to buy them back. I feel excited and guilty at the same time.

Well, Meth's a tough one to beat. Those guitars WILL be sold, so you might as well benefit, dude...
Sad.

Love it... "So I'm meeting him today on a dirt road..."

Don't be feeling guilty. It's his choice. Not only to sell his guitars, but what he's doing to his body. Until HE decides to change, there's nothing you can do for him. I was in the same spot with one of my sons. Wrecked his car, (which is the last car I ever co-sign for, because he left me owing about $8000,) and I kicked him out of my house. It still took him a couple more months to wake up and get his shit together, and that was only when EVERYONE turned their backs on him.

Get what you can. The offer of keeping them a few months for him to wake up and maybe buy them back is the most you can do for him.

I have the similar opinion as others. Let's hope the guy will "wake up" one day, but if it's more that three months, don't let him buy the guitars back, let him see what he's done to himself. That will maybe teach him a lesson.

I really hate when people lose their will for music, life...We all have troubles, but doing drugs and giving up things won't solve anything.

ok, first off: he probably won't wake up on his own. everyone else has to help him wake up. Not leeting him buy his guitars back is a horrible idea.
*i know let's depress the guy who has the money to buy his guitars back even more, i wonder what he's going to do with that money that he's not buying the guitars with*
Meth is serious stuff, if you can help this guy, you should

I have known both groups, Those who are caught up in an addiction that cause them to sell their prize possessions and those who benefit from that sell. I understand the pain of those families that get involved when this comes into their lives and the collapse of the family that sooner or later will be the final result. But there is no stopping them until there is nothing left, I hate to sound so negative but I've seen it time and time again. If you buy the stuff they sell you are doing nothing but paying for the drugs but at the same time maybe just maybe you are helping the family but even I don't really believe that. At least the items are going to a good home. No winners. Sorry about your friend.

Crack is cocaine that is cooked/processed to be super potent. I believe (and I have no experinece on such things) it is cooked to a rock and you smoke it in a pipe. Crack is also called rock, for obvious reasons. It's highly addictive and crack addicts are called crack-heads. There's running jokes about crack-heads doing petty street crime just for a hit of crack.

Meth is synthetic. It can be cooked at home with off-the-shelf pharmaceutical items. Now in many US states, certain common cold rememdies are sold behind the counter to prevent people from buying them in quantities to cook meth. I belive it's called crystal methylamine. It's also called speed or crank. It's believed to be more addictive than crack, and you can tell a meth head because of their pale skin, sunken appearance and "meth mouth" their teeth are rotten. you can use google images for meth mouth....but not before lunch.

Meth is more commonly know as "speed." It's amphetimine in nature.

Crack is processed cocaine.

Both ruin lives because people let them ruin their lives.

My son was sort of a success story with meth. I threw him out of my house after he wrecked his car and left me the bill. He got involved in a phony check scam, and used his bank account for the purpose. Another $5000 they tried to stick me with. He realized that he was going nowhere and out of the blue, went to a Navy recuiter. He felt this was the only way he could separate himself from the scum he was hanging with. A year later, his check scamming caught up with him and the Navy booted him just as he was about to go in. Still, he managed to get himself away from the situation and straighten his act up. He still struggles with some stuff, but he's gotten off the downward spiral and is slowly climbing back up.

I believe the offical name of crystal meth is crystal methamphetimine. Every thing else lloks correct.
As far as how meth is made, I think that battery acid and gasoline are involved too. Not sure about that. They say you can tell when there is a meth lab around by the sulfur smell (rotten egg smell).

It's tragic, but from my experiences you cant help people who get strung out on drugs, they have to want to help themselvs. I know it may sound harsh but it's true. I do hope that things change for this troubled soul. 1 thing ive always known is, it will screw you up real bad so don't go near it.
