I can play solos fine, I have many musicial influences to bounce off of, but the hardest ( I find...) to familiarize with is Metal soloing. I'm sure I could do it, but I would need the scales basics to work off of... anyone that can help, please do.

Also, if you have guitar pro (excluding v.5) and you would send said scales to me, I would Deeply appreciate it.

The easiest answer is to learn all your minor modes. Dorian, Phrygian, Aeolian. Locrian not so much.

harmonic minor is a good scale to familiarize yourself with..

as for the actual tabs for the scale: advanced fretpro. Google it, it's free, and it has chords, scales and everything, even a sight training sort of game where you learn to look at the fretboard in terms of notes, so like A instead of 5 on the E string. you know what I mean. check it out, it's a great program, I've been using it for some time now

I'd add one more step to "metal soloing..." PLAY IT SLOW UNTIL YOU CAN PLAY IT FAST!

We've had more than one metal group in the studio fail at this. Usually what they're saying, (after the 100th time we tried to punch in,) is, "I don't understand it? I always play this perfectly in practice and at gigs!" Yeah, right... Fact is, they always played it wrong and never heard it before. Once they hear their track without the rest of the band, they shudder and insist they can do better. I've never had so many punches in a session as I do with ANY metal group that's hit the studio. The really bad part about this is that because they've learned it wrong, and played it wrong, over and over and over, they don't have a snowball's chance of playing it right in the studio. After a couple days of practice to retrain your fingers to forget what they thought they knew, it's possible, but once you've learned it wrong you'll probably slip back to your old ways again.

It's just easier to learn it right in the first place than to have to spend the time to learn it right after learning it wrong. Good guitarists aren't necessarily fast players, they're detailed players who work to get it clean, clear and right.

Try some exotic scales too.
Japanese scale, phrygian dominant mode, and some modes in harmonic minor and melodic minor to add spice to your soloing. You can find these scales in Guitar pro 5.
Listen more to metal guitarist more catch a feel to shred.
Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Zakk Wldye, Jake E Lee, Jeff Loomis...etc..

Now that I think about it I'm gonna have enough trouble with the modes of the scales zombre is making me learn for the quest, it may take me some time to feel up to learning even MORE scales... however, if I do start gettin funky with those scales I'll let ya'll know.

Okay, I know this is a lot to ask, but I only have gp4... if anyone has access to gp5, I could borrow it maybe? Don't worry, I won't register it and get you a lwasuit or something. My email is michaeldececco@hotmail.com.

If you could help out with this, I would worship the very ground you walk on.
