Well, it's not mine, but I've been kind of obsessing with it. Open Bb Tuning. Bb F Bb F Bb F Bb F It's sick, man. I love the huge sound I get on chords, and since I play a 21 fretter, tuning the high E to an F gives me a bit more range as a soloist. Plus, I'm free to play slide. Like I said, sick. Most scalar patterns work out to be EXTREMELY symmetrical. Pentatonics in particular sit much nicer, and allow me a bit more fluidity. Yeah, I'm gettin' lazy. Don't care. I think I've earned my licence to alternate tune...

Anyhoo, the main reason is that Bb's a great key for me vocally, I have a lot mre power in this range, and I don't have to think as much when playing and singing.
I'll post some tunes very soon, I've been writing like crazy. Anyways, lemme know whatcha think, eh?

I've been extremely partial to Open C Major - CGCGCE. It just sounds so powerful. I CANT doodle around with a guitar tuned to it and not come up with something nifty.

I was using an Open C for a bit, and I decided it needed to be a bit lower. Plus it was a bitch getting that high E up to a G. I tried to just go CGCGCC for a bit, but meh...

Anyways, you can thank Grady for this bit of guitar madness, he inspired it. (Big Sugar,Grady)

Lol. Now that I finally have a non-locking non-whammy axe I might start playing around with tunings a bit.

I keep my Frankantoria electric 12 tuned to DADDAD. Its very limited in terms of chords and open/slide stuff, but what it does it does very well indeed. Most enchanting sound that comes alive with all the harmonics and octaves on a 12.

I'll have some new stuff posted very soon! The biggest advantage is the fact that the tonal range on this guitar is increased. I can pretty much muddle my way through anything, and I may even start using Capos...

@ Steve : I'm afraid not. I lack acceptable recording means. So far any hook up I've tried comes out lousy in quality and none of them allows me to listen to what I'm playing. I need a usb soundcard. Either that or nag my bro to give me his toneport in exchange for my pod2 or pocket-pod when I go visit home in a couple of months...

I have used alternate tunings throughout the years, especially drop D, Drop C, Eb, and the open G. I use open E for "She Talks to Angels." That one is reall cool, but it's difficult for me to do anything else other than use it for triads, and one finger chord voicings. I love the Drop C, and the Drop D, though. It fills the bottom end with a thump. I was recently reading the Lynard Skynard article, via Guitar World, and heard them talk about using drop tunings behind standard tunings. This will be my next venture with the different tuning methods.

IBZRG, are you enjoying the new stop tail?

well, it's definitely a different sound, and if you want to get an original sound (ie stop playing other people's licks) that's one way that's quick and dirty...

I'm having a lot of fun with this, it's cool. Now the strings, I'm gonna have to go with some way heavy guys on the bottom...
