Well first things first, don't rebuild anything if it leaves you with NO guitar to play. It's hard to play the blues when the neck and the body are on opposite sides of the room, although that would certainly give me the blues. Play what you got until you get more then you can rebuild the Squire but why would you. Yes go buy a new Fender Strat or anything else that comes close to that dream guitar but more importantly play, play the Squire, play the Fender, play anything. Chances are a lot of nice guitars will pass through your hands by the time you become that amazing guitarist.

go to www.warmoth.com and build your dream little by little. some of my best guitars are warmoth guitars, they are amazing....expensve (perhaps about $1000 max for the guitar of your dreams...) but if you work hard, and your good all year, maybe santa will help out........ in all reality, you would put far to much money into a squire.

basically, warmoth has every part you need to build a guitar 100% to your specifications, so, you go to the section with bodies, select a body, select the wood, finish, pickup routing, pot routing, ETC, and they make it for you, same tyhing with the necks, go choose the headstock shape (which can be your own custom design) neck wood, fingerboard wood, tuner type, fingerboard radius, neck contour, fret size fret color, scale length, truss rod type, all of that stuff, and they build it to your specs, not only do they do that, but they do it with attention to detail only seen in the very highest quality guitars costing thousands more. i have quite a few of them, and they are far and away the best guitars i hjave ever played.

If you have the money, buy the American Strat. I have had an American Tele for 20 years. It has been through hell (gigs, being dropped, drilled, etc.). I still stays in perfect tune and sounds great. It has a few dings but nothing major.
I have never played a Korean strat but I have played a Mexican one and they are definitely not the same as an American one. The pickups are horrible. If you are thinking long term or "dream" guitar, go ahead and get the American Strat.

Go American. Some mexicans can be good, but most of the time you will get problems. Like richey said the pick ups are not that great, but there are other things to. I bought one last summer and I have loads of problems with it. The neck is warped, the bridge and saddles are all messed up, and some of the tuners do not work as well as the others.
