Finally! My own Palmer PDI-03 speaker simulator is sitting in my rack!

As soon as it came in, I immediately set about trying to record a sample. Within about 5 minutes I had found the sound I wanted. Geez, what an awesome device! I live in an apartment complex, so believe it or not, there was *no* guitar sound outside of the headphones I was wearing! My neighbors will love me now.

Again, for those who aren't familiar with the PDI-03, it replaces your speaker and microphone for recording or live sound. You hook it up like a speaker, and then run a line out the back of it to a mixing console or recording equipment. I run the line out to my Rocktron Xpression, because I want to add the effects to the cranked power tubes sound and not in the loop before the tubes.

Anyway, here's the sample clip. I faded it out at the end because I blew a fuse in the Legacy (the power grid here sucks! I have a Monster 2500 on order to help alleviate that issue).

Also, I was completely sober when this was done...it's a definite difference from last night lol. Sorry about that one guys.

It's really nice that they're developing things for the recording musician who lives in the midst of a**holes who just don't understand why we have to have things turned up like that!

Not that we'd use something like that in the studio, which is the only drawback I see. We've had many people come to the studio wanting to use an emulator, etc. There is no reason in the studio to record through a unit like this, but at home, where volume and neighbors are a consideration, it's nice to have something that will get you close to the sound you want.

True, but from what I hear, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and a few others swear by these things. They may not use them exclusively, but I imagine you could get some really interesting tones by mixing this with a mic'ed signal. I like it for the simple fact that I don't have to worry about mic placement, and when I go out to gig, I can *nail* my recorded tones every single time becase you remove the variable of the microphone.

I can imagine it would also make re-amping a breeze. Just change out the amp head, plug in, and let 'er rip. I plan on experimenting with that idea a little ways down the road.
