love it?
hate it?
reviews?

It sounds like a good idea until the motto of rock: "stick it to the man!" comes into my head. then it seems like an overly industrialized way to make money. But that's just me. has anyone else heard of/been through the camp?

Don't buy into that stuff. It's much better to make it the authentic way. Play the local circuit, get a small (yet loving) fan base, maybe release an album (if you've got a standard 4 piece band you can usually divide up the studio charges to about £15 an hour). Then start touring and hope you make it.

There's loads of schools of rock and such, and most of them are bogus attemps to make money. Well, I guess you'll get introduced to cool musicians, but thats about it... Besides, power-chords are for n00bs (joke =P).

Based on looking around the site, these are my thoughts:

If you think you're serious about a being a pro or semi-pro musician AND you have at least intermediate skills on your instrument, then this seems worth going to. If this were offered at a different stage of my life, I'd seriously give it some thought.

If you're a beginner, this would be a waste of money. You gotta have some chops to get the most out of this.

This is only one week? (multiple sessions are recommended) Look at all the things they are cramming into that week. I get the feeling you'd leave this with just a familiarization of each thing on the itenary. This certainly would be a super cool experience. But the title "academy" means something differen't to me. I don't think people who attend this should expect to be proficient in any area of the course after only one week (opinion).

It would be great to hear a first hand report in a blog from anyone who actually attended. I read the testimonials... They seem genuine.

$1795 per student.

I'm used to this concept. In the Information Technology world, there's tons of 1 week courses that cram information into your head. Classes typically cost anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 for the 1 week course. Are these classes useful? Heak yea! Does your brain hurt at the end of that week! Definately! I'm attending one of those 1 week courses next month!

what is there to learn about power-chords that's worth paying??? A regular(n00b :) just kidding) power-chord is mostly made with the tonic and the fifth played together, or vice versa...you just have to experiment a little and find all the positions on the guitar where you can play a combination of those two scale degrees...Of course it can go further, but I also say that's individual. You can make a power-chord with the first and the fourth, the third, augmented fourth, flat fifth, augmented fifth, sixth, and you just need to experiment with positions all over the neck, and insert some notes to find the sound you really think it's cool. For example, I use a lot of the 5th-1st-5th-2nd(9th) four-string power-chord...Better invest in a theory book :) where you learn about intervals, chord construction, chord substitution, relation between scale degrees...

OK, don't get me wrong, if you have the money, why not go to the camp, maybe you can learn something new, but for people like me, that are in a bad financial situation, that's just stupid. :)

Malmsteen has good usage of power-chords, and both guitarists from Angra, Michael Romeo, Steve Vai...just transcribe, and you'll learn, and it's better when you learn by yourselves :)

Wow!

It's obvious to anyone who visited the link that you didn't! The name of the academy is just a name. It doesn't mean students will spend $1,700 and one week to learn how to play a power chord!

LOL!!!!!!!!

I didn't mean to knock this at all. It looks to be a real good thing.
I may let my kids do this one day if they are interested.
