Which do you prefer....Rosewood necks or Maple necks. I don't own either with a Rosewood neck but i have played many. I have an American Statndard Strat with Maple neck and i love it. Which do you guys prefer?

I prefer rosewood on Strats and any other guitar. On Teles I guess I would prefer maple, cause that would just go with the general vibe of a Tele better than rosewood (imho).

I have a Tele with a maple and I love it. My next guitar will be a strat and I plan to get it with a maple neck too.

I've been playing a Strat for the last few months, rosewood. I've never played a maple neck. Is there really a difference? Maybe the experts would say yes but what about the rest of us average Joe's?

Im not sure if there is a difference in tone (or at least not enough to tell). Its more about feel. On Fenderes im all Maple. On LPs its all rosewood.

You guys got me freaked out for a sec. I thought when you said neck you actually meant the neck and not the fretboard. I am actually looking to build a rosewood neck right not. As for the fretboard I really like rosewood for the warmer tone is generates. Maple is tonal trait is brighter. Which I have made maple neck that I love as well. If I could afford it though I would do more ebony fret boards. I really dig the ebony.

I'm a huge fan of ebony boards...my newest Les Paul was bought partially for just that reason.

Rosewood boards tend to sound a little warmer and smoother...and are more forgiving, in terms of effort/note. A maple board is brighter, and can be more difficult to get full tone and sustain out of notes. On the other hand, it sounds great when you get it right.

My Fender HSS Stratocaster has a maple fretboard, but I can't compare it to the rosewood, as I havn't tried it out yet. The maple one has a nice feel to it, from what I can tell.

Maple is my favorite. I just like the feel and look of it.

I hate maple... I can't stand the look it looks like some one stuck a piece of pine on a guitar... I am rosewood only all of my guitars... I especially like that brazilian rosewood that looks almost black... that is sharp...

I am buying a telecaster some time next month... and it will have rosewood... I'm thinking a highway one series...

My first strat (an '83 - yeah, I know. But, hey, it was the 80s and I was in High School) has a maple neck. I never realized a difference until about five years ago when I got a rosewood strat. Now I have two with maple necks and two with rosewood. I would say that the maple necks play a bit "stiffer" and have a brighter sound while the rosewood increases the warmer tones of the humbuckers I put on; even after almost 25 years my first strat still has a very bright, but not shrill sound.
