The most beautiful guitars for me, are Jazz guitars, but there is a wonderful solid-body electric guitar design.
It's the Iceman!

What is your favorite?

(talking about design, not p-ups or action or tone or whatever)

If we're talking aggressive, my favorite is the Dean Razorback with a flashy paintjob like this one: http://www.theobsession.net/images/razorbruno2.jpg

If we're talking more classic, Gibson ES335 wine red.

I'm also a sucker for quilted tops under transparent dark orange finish. Gimme that on almost any guitar and I'll drool.

There are other guitars I like too, like wide grain wood on acoustics...

Any Fender Stratocaster is sexy as hell to me...well, maybe not the 70's models. But the rest of them are hot.

For pure looks I can't see how anything can beat a beautiful arch top with F holes. Every time I see one the G.A.S. alarm goes off.

I've never been enamored with the look of a guitar. My wife is a different story. She would have had me buy a $4000 Taylor full Koa, just because of the looks.

While there are guitars that I think are ugly as hell, (not going to hurt any feelings here as some are already mentioned,) I don't have any that make me "drool" by their looks alone. It's how they sound that makes a difference to me.

Since I play acoustics, I would disagree with ibzRG on the "wide grain on acoustics." While it may look pretty, it's usually a bad thing for tone and sustain. The tighter the grain, especially with spruce, the better the tonal quality of the wood and in the acoustic world you are more dependant on your wood than anything else.

Now I do realize there are many different designs in the electric world because you're not as limited as you are in the acoustic world and most are completely based on Les Paul or Strat designs. There's a reason for it as both those designs take advantage of all the things that are best for that style guitar's purpose. Variations are "cute" and might float a lot of boats out there, but I'll stick with the standards because there hasn't been a change in that basic design since their inception. There's a reason for that.

No, spruce needs to be tight. Lamination works for me. I'm not sure what my washburn has for sides and back but it's gorgeous!

To me, the most elegant and beautiful guitar is the D Aquisto New Yorker. I don't bop, so I don't have use for one, but it sure would be nice to have. Go to this web site and savor the simple elegance of this fine instrument.

I've been watching the guitars you mentioned and I loved the Mockingbird.
I don't like Strats and Flying V's (sorry for hurting you..)
The LP is cute too.
D'a Quistos are wonderful.

I love Les Paul style guitars. Something about the shape just seems so natural, like it's built just for me. It fits, you know? Mmmmm....heaven.
