Having the first post as a Yngwie drool fest could be driving new users away! Sure the guy can play, but he's not the end all/be all to guitar players.

Just to let anyone who looks in know... There are MANY tastes here. And they're not ALL bad!

;p

Friend of mine had the chance to hang out with one of the sound guys for Joe Satriani last year and got this AMAZING story about one of his former employees, Mr. Yngwie. Said Yngwie is a real d!ck to his crew. One night something wasn't right and he took out his anger on this particular sound guy, cussing him in front of everybody, etc.

So the next night the sound guy took a pitch shifter and set it 3/4 of a step below Yngwie's guitar. He put it on the vocal channels going into the main outs but not the monitors, so Yngwie heard himself singing perfectly but the crowd heard him singing 3/4 of a step below what he was playing. Yngwie saw the weird looks he was getting and kept looking at the sound guy who was set up in the crowd. Sound guy kept giving him the "thumbs up" like nothing was wrong. He got fired after that, but he said it was worth it.

I believe it is generally true, but I think he might have exaggerated the extent to which he did it. He said he did it for an entire set but it was more likely for just one song. There's tons of people in front of the stage that it takes to make the production work (lighting guys for example) and I'm sure something was said to a guitar tech or someone like that. Still a funny story though. Feel free to replace "Yngwie" with your favorite victim.

The original post about "King-Veigh", if you made time to click the link to the video in the blog that my post referenced, would show a spoof on an Yngwie instructional video...the post was intended to make people laugh. My sides split when I heard a Schwarzenegger-like voice in the place of Yngwie's and I nearly had a heart attack when the guitar playing was overdubbed by a kid who apparently drank too much Kool-Aid. Ah well, you can't be everything to everyone. Cheers!

Sorry dude... Can't click links to video or music where I work. It's all blocked. No way of knowing what you posted. Spoof is a good thing though.

Just find it funny that no one had posted anything for a few days and when I post a "There's more to life than Yngwie" topic, there's suddenly action.

Oh, and yeah, Yngwie is a dick to the people who work around him. A COMPLETE dick. It's not uncommon. Andy Griffith is even more of a dick and you just wouldn't expect that from the man. Our solution in these instances is that we don't work for these people. My brother walked off an Andy Griffith set, not for a personal reason, (he wasn't the focus of misplaced ire,) but because the man just treats everyone like shit. There have been several live gigs where we walked off the sound system because the band felt they knew better and weren't the least bit knowledgeable of what we had to work with. As long as someone thinks they can do better, we let them try to do it themselves. Some learn, some don't. They're out there. And there's more of them than you might think.

On the day when they gave the lesson on Karma, Mr. Malmsteen was probably giving it to himself real good in the restroom. I'm sorry, that was unforgivable. I meet Jeff Soto at a friends engagement party and after he was asked if he truly was 'The Viking' he told us he was making $500 a week singing for Yngwie's band. Awe and grief stricken on his behalf, we bought him shots even though his then current trousers probably cost more than all four years of my collegiate meal plan!

Yingwie's got skills but he sounds the same today as he did when Mike Varney discovered him. As for player I'm liking who's almost as controversial is Herman Li, the guy so many people go out of their way to hate, for whatever reason, I don't know.
