Has anyone read the forward by Paul Gilbert in the Shred Special Edition of Total Guitar? If not, it's worth the read. (Well, I got a kick out of it, anyway).

He covers shredding from three different angles. Basically, if you are one, you wear your guitar too high to be cool and barely move. If you're a fan, you seek the rush it gives you. If you're a friend of a shredder, to quote Gilbert, "forget it. There is no cure."

I'm obviously not doing the article justice, but I'm sure Total Guitar would have an issue with me reprinting the entire article. Gilbert puts it all in that lighthearted tone that I'm sure you're familiar with, humorous observations, mixed with useful insights. There is also track after track on the accompanying CD of Gilbert sharing his technique, with the tab for all he is discussing and playing.

Too bad you don't get the mag there. Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques (the latter is the better of the two, in my opinion) are excellent resources.

Hmmn. I get Guitar Techniques, just not the other one. There's a Japanese mag called "Young Guitar" that I wouldn't mind getting, too!
